Vista is proprietary, you need to go out and find the correct driver for that CD-RW/DVD-ROM for that Acer PC.

I keep getting a waning about length but I am coping from a lp to a lp

The CD may be an "overburned" CD, which is longer than your typical CD's length, which would display the the Overflow warning message.

We can solve this problem by holding down the ESC button for 2 seconds, and then accessing the Advanced Setup menu. Under the Advanced Setup Menu, there is a function called "Overburn", which will enable the copying of overburned CDs.

Cd drive is not opening

Hi,

Uninstall the driver from Device Mgr, then go to registry editor, browse to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
On the left hand side delete the Upper and Lower filter. Restart the PC and reinstall the driver. You may also create new user account if issue continues.

MATSHITA UJ-840D, has disappeared and I can't play cd's/dvd's.

Before you do this though export your current registry to the desktop by selecting export from the file menu. If this doesn’t work just double click on the exported on to restore it.

1. Start Registry Editor by typing regedit into the start search box in the bottom left hand corner of the start menu.
2. In Registry Editor, expand Computer, and then expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
3. Expand SYSTEM, and then expand CurrentControlSet.
4. Expand Control, and then expand Class.
5. Under Class, click {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}.
6. In the details pane of Registry Editor, on the right side, click UpperFilters.
7. Right click and select delete
8. Click Yes when you receive the following message: Are you sure you want to delete this value?
9. Now look for LowerFilters in the right hand panel.
10. Right click and select delete
11. Click Yes when you receive the following message: Are you sure you want to delete this value?
12. Exit Registry Editor
13. Restart the machine
It wit worked for me on Acer with UJ845D XP Good luck

Philips 8801 Drive Has Disappeared

Try this:

Uninstall the hardware in the device manager.

Restart and go into safe mode with GUI and networking.

Go into Control panel -> (Performance&Maintenance) System -> System Restore tab.

Save a restore point.

Go back to the last restore point.

Restart PC.

*If anywhere in the System panel you see a Dell restore/repair or Dell backup/revert icon, info, etc, that would be the way to go. Dell ought to have its own system self-repair buried somewhere on the harddrive that should be accessable through the control panel, start/programs menu, or in the boot/safe mode logon process.

Please reply if this does not help and I will continue to assist you.
