Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Losing backlight in about 3 seconds

I've found the problem to be at location Q-755, which is an SMD IC. The chip has been hot enough to melt the solder from the pads. I need to know the cross on the IC or where I can get one. The numbers are as follows:
4431
AE
W25C

This monitor is a Compaq D5064 (1720) LCD.
Would appreciate any help.

Thanks,
electrotech

How do I reset the bios Password on a Panasonic Cf-51

This method may help;
1) Locate and remove the RTC battery
2) locate and remove the main battery and unplug power supply.
3) depress the power button for 30-60 seconds.
you do not have to solder anything to the board if there are posts ic 61,63 on MAIN PCB then just put a jumper across them while you power up. if its just 2 SMD pads just use a needle probe to arc the connection.

T-con diagram

Hi Simba,
Generally there is no need of the diagram in AS15 colour disorder cases. It is 48 pin smd soldered on the TCON board. Try resoldering all the pins first. If it does not work simply replace the IC. I hope it helps.
Good Luck.

P50pdtv10a will not change channels stuck on channel 3

Hello
The system memory IC of your TV has damaged. This is one, which stores all the setting we have done with remote control, including channel memmory. This IC works in conjunction with the main system control IC. When we switch OFF or do any other adjustments with the tV, all the data will be stored in this IC, and tetreived from it to main system IC to process when we switch ON the TV. This is a non-volatile memory chip, ie, even the power is OFF, the data stored in it won't lost. This is a very small IC, can locate very near to main system control IC. Will have 8 solder terminals [normally], and ver cheap to buy too. Even though it is a very cheap and small one, the function of it in the circuit is great. In some Vizio sets, this IC will be of SMD [surface Mount Device] type, and on othere will be a DIL [Dual In Line] type pin confujuration. If your TVs memory is of first as stated above [SMD], replacing it will not be an easy job. If it is of second type, it can be replace easly.
Anyway, this is not a work that can be done without skill. If you have enough knldege in electronics, and have a concept of desoldering and soldering, have all soldering equipments with you, you can do this work by yourself at home. Otherwise you have to seek assistance from an experienced service technician. OK.

The laptop comes on but no pitchure on the screen

1) Use a flashlight, and shine it at the LCD screen of the Acer laptop at various angles.
Do you see faint images?

2) Laptop off you can also attach a VGA monitor (CRT. Looks like a small TV), to the VGA connector on the back of the laptop. Laptop on, press, and hold down on the Fn key, and press the Function key which toggles the graphics over to an external monitor. (Usually there is a icon on the key for this, on the keyboard)

Graphics present on external monitor?

If so you have a problem with the Inverter. (Screen Inverter)

An LCD screen cannot produce enough light by itself. It needs an additional light source.
A Backlight is the additional light source.

A Backlight is a CCFL.
Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp.
Much like the Fluorescent lighting used in homes, and businesses, but on a MUCH smaller scale.
(Average Backlight size is half the thickness of a No.2 pencil, and 3 to 4 inches long)

An Inverter is used to convert the electricity coming from the laptop for the LCD screen, and the Backlight.

90 Percent of the time the fault is the Inverter.

The Inverter is located inside the Display Assembly.
[Display Assembly:
1) Top cover of laptop.

2) Display Bezel in the front of the LCD screen, and surrounds the outer front edge of the LCD screen. {Looks like a picture frame}

3) LCD screen

4) Web camera if this model has one.

5) Wireless Antenna

6) Inverter

7) Backlight

8) LCD screen metal frame, and hinges

9) Various screws ]

With the Display bezel removed the Inverter is located at the bottom middle, below the LCD screen.

{If I knew the Model Name, and Model Number of your Acer laptop I MAY be able to post a link to a free Service Manual for it}

If no faint images are seen, and/or an external monitor shows no graphics, there is a problem with the graphics chip on the motherboard.

Chip and Chipset are slang terms for I.C.
Integrated Circuit,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Integrated_Circuit

The graphics chip is mounted to the laptop motherboard via a BGA surface mount.

BGA surface mount:
To explain let me compare the older style of mounting Processors.

The older Processors have pins sticking out of the bottom. These pins lined up with socket holes in the Processor socket.

The Ball Grid Array type of surface mount has no pins on the chip. (In this case a graphics chip)
There are solder balls in place of the pins.

The area where the chip mounts to on the motherboard has copper pads.
The chip is lined up with the solder balls matching the copper pads.
Then heat is applied which melts the solder balls, and solders the chip to the copper pads.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ball_grid_array

If there is a poor cooling system for the graphics chip, the chip overheats, and the BGA surface mount becomes loosened.
The solder connections melt partially.
This creates a poor contact surface for the graphics chip to the motherboard, resulting in no graphics being shown on the LCD screen.

I await your findings with the flashlight, and/or external monitor. Would also like the Model Name, and Model Number. (Bottom of laptop)

joecoolvette

I have white spots and black spots on right side of Mitsubishi WD-C657. I've done research online, and have heard its the dlp chip. Is that true, and if so, is it something that I can replace myself,...

This tv is it the DLP projection light engine block main board itself is the problems, not easily to go into the tv itself and replacing the IC chip itself.Must take out many mechanical parts to get u the Light engine block it self.U can replaced IC but somethime the IC chip it replaced, will not solved the problems, because the tv problems now the it is spreading and going on beyond the IC chip itself. If want to keep this tv very exspensive repair,i would reconmend hire a bound qualify tv tech replaced the whole Light projection block itself, but first call Mitsubishi for some kind of deal, they might help with the repair amount cost.

Acer 5536 shows only black screen and does not go to vista mode

The problem is with the video chip of the laptop. for fixing it you need to reball the IC or you can do a trick. 1. Open the motherboard. 2. Pull out heat sink 3. search for nvidia display chip 4. heat the chip with heat torch or SMD soldering gun
Boot It.

The problem is well known witht this model Toshiba - the problem is the fan stops working and then hence shuts down to prevent overheating - it does not take long once the laptop is hot. Without replacing the fan just reboot the laptop until you hear the fan start again on reboot.
