Washer it will not change from wash to spin

If this is a top loading washer it is likely the lid switch.

If the tab has broken on the lid the switch will not actuate. The switch can be replaced by an experienced repairman. The power must be removed before attempting any repairs.

The washer will not drain or go into the spin cycle with the lid raised or defective switch.

Check that the tab is not broken!

Washer fills agitates but wont drain

Hello,

The usual problem when that type washer does not drain/spin is a broken lid switch. The lid switch is mid center side of the rim of the lid opening when looking at the washer from the front.ina lot of case by looking in that area ya can see where its broken and hanging down,if ya can not see it phyisically broken ya can open the lid and close it slowly and listen for a click when the lid is mostly closed,do this a couple times,if ya do no thear a click when lid is almost closed the switch will be the problem

This youtube video will show ya how to replace the lid switch. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MFsvLiuTniU

Kenmore elite not spinning

This issue is caused by:

- Lid open. Be sure the lid is correctly closed
- Lid switch broken. It may need to be replaced.
- Motor broken. QUite expensive repair, the motor needs to be replaced.
- Timer broken.

Check the lid is correctly closed, perhaps the lid switch is having some failures.

We need to replace the switch that allows the spin cycle to work with the lid down. The back is one solid piece we dont know how to get to the timer to plug in the new switch we bought

What you are talking about is called the "lid switch". The following link explains how to replace one on a Kenmore top loader:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385198-replacing_lid_switch

Make sure you check to see if the switch is simply loose. There should be some mounting screws holding it in place. In addition, there is usually a small plastic piece mounted on the washer lid on most Kenmores that activate the switch when the lid is closed. This is called a "lid strike". If the mounting screws are loose, or if the lid strike is broken or missing, the washer will exhibit the same symptoms as having a broken lid switch. For replacement parts, refer to searspartdirect.com and type in your complete model number (located along the washer lid opening). The parts you need will be listed under the "Top and Cabinet" heading.

I hope you find this information helpful. Let me know if you require additional assistance.

If the washer fills and stops at the rinse cycle, and then will not spin or drain, you more than likely have a defective lid switch. If you open and close the washer lid and do not hear a “clicking” sound, the switch has probably come loose, or has broken. There are two mounting screws that hold the switch in place along the washer rim. Also, inspect the lid to ensure the small plastic piece that pushes down on the switch when the lid is closed has not broken off. This is called the “lid strike”. If the lid strike is broken or missing, the lid switch will not activate. If you diagnose the problem and need to replace the switch, you can click on the following link for advice on how to replace it:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r397101-replacing_lid_switch

If you need further assistance, such as where to get replacements parts, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

NOTE: You do not need to drain the wash tub to replace the switch. Once the switch has been replaced, the washer should spin and drain, which will prevent you from needing to bail water.

Washer water not draining

Your washer probably has a frozen pump pulley or a broken pump belt. To check the pulley you should remove the pump from the washer and try to rotate its pulley manually. If it doesn't turn freely (frozen or stiff) it should be replaced. In case of a broken pump's belt or belt looks quite worn, replace it. In any case, check the pump's pulley before you replacing the belt. Let me know if you need for further assistance. Good luck
