Question about Canon LIDE20 Flatbed Scanner

1 Answer

Windows vista ultimate 64 bit

No driver issued from cannon for the lide 20 to date to suit my OS. Scanner is not very old and is already obsolete if I can not even use it.. Doh! If this is not fixed asap I will have to buy another and I will be sure to make sure it is not another cannon if there tech support does not get things moving! Very unhappy :-(

With quad core processors pretty much being the norm these days, there is very little 32 bit processors even available on the market. AMD and Intel have jumped ship a long time ago now so one would think that Canon would respond by creating drivers to suit! This is a serious let down as every other piece of hardware I have has had no issues with giving the correct drivers to me. Ah, apart from a four year old ten dollar chinese web cam, but that I kind of expected! Canon should have there **** together on this one as they are no back yarders and have a responsibility to look after there customers. If I have to buy another scanner I will never purchase Canon again and I will be relaying this info to all I know. I have spent thousands on Canon gear in the past years and have always been a loyal customer. Once bitten, twice shy!

This is going to be a problem with Vista 64 since all the drivers before were 32 bit. There have been plenty of warnings out there about it.

Unless you can adapt the 32 bit driver to the hardware or wait and see if Canon will support it, thats going to be the situation.

I remember seeing the same thing when we were switching from 16 bit drivers to 32 bit drivers years ago. I don't miss those days.

I installed the new Canon LiDE 110 scanner drivers. When I click on the Scan button, it gives the error msg: Cannot Communicate with scanner. Cable may be disconnected. Scanner driver will be closed

I was getting that same error message, every second time I tried to scan something. I had the scanner connected to a USB 3.0 jack. I switched to USB 2.0 jack, and the problem was solved.

I need a driver for lide80 canoscan scanner

What OS do you have? The drivers (supported OS versions) for the LiDe 80 are available here: http://www.cusa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/scanners/canoscan_series/canoscan_lide_80#DriversAndSoftware . If you have Win7 64-bit, the Vista x64 driver doesn't work even in the compatibility mode.

If you want a work-around for the 64-bit OS, Win7 Pro and Ultimate allow you to download and install XP mode free. This takes two programs, Virtual PC and the XP mode, that you download from Microsoft and install. This will run a virtual computer under Win7 and you can install the scanner to the virtual computer. To share files with the real computer, you should store them on external media.

Alternatively for Win7x64, you can install any of the other Virtual computer programs (Parallels, VMWare, etc) with a licensed older version of Windows. Then do the same as above. Another option is a dual boot computer with the older licensed version of Windows with the scanner installed to the "machine" with the older OS. I don't see a Unix driver for this scanner so you need a valid copy of Windows.

I hope this helps.

(If you have Win7 x64, the only other options are 1) to try and get Canon to extend their drivers (since they do support Win7 32-bit) or 2) get a new scanner.)

No driver for Canoscan FB 630U Vista 64 bit

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like Canon supports this scanner under Vista. Check if the Windows generic TWAIN scanner driver will work. The Canon software won't work. If the generic driver can be installed, then you should be able to acquire scans in Paint (File > Import from Scanner or Camera), Windows Fax and Scan (New Scan) (some versions of Vista) or Windows Photo Gallery (IIRC it works like Paint).

I hope this helps.

(Canon wants you to upgrade. I have a different scanner that isn't officially supported past XP and the generic driver works fine. Unfortunately, you can't just use the XP driver in the compatibility mode due to the lack of signed drivers that are required in the 64-bit OS)

Driver for canoscan lide 35 for windows 7, 64 bits

this is the support site ...and the driver I found there is for windows 7 but on 32..Cause they do not have one for 64 bits OS yu should download and try the Vista one on 64 ..cause the compatibility is usually high and it s worth give it a try ..If not the only way you will be able to use is if you reinstall the windows & on 32..You will not feel much difference but the driver's compatibilities will be easier to match

CanoScan LiDe 60 wont work on emachine with window 7. Error about being 32 bit.

Go to the following URL: http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=SupportDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=235&modelid=11446#DownloadDetailAct

Then select your OS.The drivers and software for Win7 32 bit and Win7 64 bit different. The Win7 64 bit drivers are digitally signed; the 32 bit version doesn't need the same level of security certificates (a Microsoft issue).

I hope this helps.

Canoscan does not work on vista 64-bit

I'm not sure if this will work on the lide 20. I have an lide 35, and there are no 64 bit drivers for it. I downloaded and installed the drivers for the lide 60, told the computer to manually find the lide 60 drivers for my scanner, and installed the canoscan toolbox for vista 64 bit. Works like a champ.
