With headlights off and brake pedal depressed, the front side-lights come on. When auto headlights come on at night, this permanently illuminates all brake lights.

Definitely either a short or a bad earth/ground. Your best bet is to find where your rear lights are wired to the body (earthed) and clean all the contacts to make sure they are all making a clean contact. You could try running a secondary earth wire from the rear light cluster to a good tight and clean grounding point on the body and see if that remedies it.
Electrical problems can be a real PITA to find.

I have a 1998 Rodeo a few days ago i noticed that when i brake my dash lights and park light are coming on also my heater fan works sometimes?

sounds like a short to earth in the brake light system , check that the brake lights are actually coming on as a first step , tracing this type of fault can be time consuming , as a start check the wiring connection at the rear light clusters and make sure the earth wire are sound , good connection to body etc , then i would check the earth at the brake light switch , top of brake padal , just check for continuity from earth wire to body if both of these are ok i would get a auto electrician to trace for you , will save you time , unless you would like to try your self then i would suggest getting a workshop manual , follow this link there should be one for your vehicle on this site , keep me posted if you wish

hi,that shows the button is not making connection ,check wires to button and to make sure,,get a brown live to switch and to battery, and negative blue too and negative and live to switch and earth to body of car,,basically its a black wire to switch, along with red wire to switch or blue.then attach to battery of car... but put an earth wire to body of car , or change switch could be loose connection in side ....hp that helps,-)

The tail lights on my 2006 dodge grand caravan don't work. Yet all the other lights do. I have replaced the light switch on dash but it did not fix the problem. Any ideas what could be wrong?

Get the wiring standard for trailer socket on car / caravan .
Something like this
http://www.caravantalk.co.uk/caravan-advice/new-to-caravanning/electrics-guide/12-volt-systems
Then get a 12v probe and test the voltage is coming out the correct pins on the car when the tail lights are turned on.
http://www.amazon.com/6-36V-Circuit-Test-Probe-Indicator/dp/B0065R1CK4
Check the Earth Connections on the caravans tail lights.
Check the Caravan has an earth connection to the car body.
https://caravanchronicles.files.wordpress.com/2012/01/caravanchronicles-wiring1.jpg
see how pin 3 shows an earth wire it would have a wire on car socket pin 3 going to the car body. If the earth wire is corroded or broken I think the tail lights on the caravan would not work. It may be a different pin on your setup .

Mitsubishi montero limited 2002 left turn signal stays on solid even when engine is off.

It sounds like there is a wire shorting to earth (The metal body) of the car somewhere. I would have a close look around where the wires to the indicators go through any panels or into the lights themselves for damage. Have a look inside the indicator housings on the front and back, there may be water or something in there causing a short. Cars use whats called a "neutral earth" electrical system. Components have an "Active" or positive wire supplying power when switched on, and its negative or neutral is supplied by a connection to earth or the metal body parts of the car.

I have a 2005 Chevy Tahoe and the hazards come on when I use my left turn signal occasionally. The right turn signal works fine.

hi.

i am not sure if you mean your hazard lights actually come on, or if all 4 indicators come on at the same time.
hazards coming on would suggest a fault in the indicator switch, or a short in the wiring.

all 4 indicators coming on, would suggest a bad earth connection on the rear left side of the vehicle. this is far more likely, and can be cured by tracing the earth wire to teh body of the car, and check for loose, damaged wires, or corrosion at the earth point on the body.

easy way to tell, is to switch on the tail lights at the same time. if these get brighter and dimmer in time with the indicators, it is almost certainly an earth fault.

hope this helps

Break lights on all times????????????????????

Hi

I know you said the switch is all the way out but they can stick internally and will appear that the switch is still out but the small conatct inside will still be down. check that before going any further.

No your right the abs would not cause the brake lights to stop working in any way as it is not connected at all. Check the earth/ground leads from the rear light clusters to the car body, ensure they have a good conatct, shiny metal to metal. check the wiring from the rear lights also.

sometimes people use the wrong bulb in the brake lights and the light connections connect the cluster board as one, basically the wrong bulb can make the lights stay on through contact to an incorrect part of the assembly board for the rear lights.

Alos check the main battery lead black one earth/ground from the car battery to the car body ensure again this has a good contact from the battery to the car body. there will be another earth lead going to the gearbox, check all your earths, as a poor earth can again cause this fault.

Thats quite a bit of information, sorry it's just there are so many things that can cause this fault.

Hope this helps

dan

Battery died in a 85 Dodge power ram 4x4, got a new battery, now none of the lights work. Checked fuses, bulbs. Thinking it might be a short some where. Need diagram to trace wires.

YOU have either left a wire off the battery lug or a wire of the earth lug as the Red wires goes to starter motor and alternator, and elect like fues box etc and the BLACK wires goes to earth on the Engine bolt and on the body under the bonnet as the engine and trans is on rubber mounts so the body must have a earth wire also,.,.,.,.,.Another way put a jump lead from black term on battery to any where on the body/fender /bonnetany good earth then turn on the lights,
Let me know how you get on , Ron
