My simple tech wont work

my external hard drive wont work.. everything is plugged in.. but a red light comes on ... it makes no sence.. i use it 4 times a week then all the sudden it stops working.. please help

-   Same problem... I plug it into my USB port, flip it on and it blinks blue once, then a little red light blinks a few times... My computer will not let me view it. Sometimes when I turn it (hard drive) on, my computer just goes to a blue screen, and says I have an error or something and has to turn off... -   eweb

-   Same problem, red light comes on and disk is spinning. Blue light wont come on and computer wont recognize it. Sometimes if i tilt it at a certain angle it'll start working...weird. -   stevesmith12

I took mine into a local computer shop to see if they could get the data... They can and did...

I just needed to buy a new housing unit ~ $45

The guy said the plug-in for the USB cable and Power supply into was shot

I understand that this is plug and play, but after pluging in the device nothing happens, no automatic download, nothing.
