There are many reasons to cause PS3 won't play dvd or bluray disc. Almost the disc stuck inside your console and can't retrieve. Most reasons are blu-ray drive problems and need to fix it or replacement. But sometimes are other problems that can't use normal method to fix. It's waste your time and money if you send to somewhere repair - because the same problems will be back after then. The best way is to learn the repair techniques of yourself.

Every time i play the cd player it jumps back to the radio

Did you check if the DVD disk you are trying to play is actually playable? Mabe the player can't read the disk so reboots to radio. Also, you should try with another DVD disk

If disk is ok, recheck your original setup options, but I'm quite sure that it's some electronic failure of your device. Simply should not make sense some hidden option to play radio wnen you select the DVD player.

So your final optin probably should de take your device to repair service. Look at your original warranty for nearest authorized repair service, even if warranty has expired.

This happens with a number of drives.
1. DVD Dye type - but as you have tried DVDs from a batch that works seems unlikely.
2. Some drives dont like +R or -R If using +R try -R etc. Also some drives have problems with RW's used previously
3. Drive head travel is faulty. Sometimes only recording a max of 4Gb or 90% on a disk works OK.

Persario r4000 won't read software cds

tada ! a compaq from the past. OMG runs XP right?
12 year old LT.
this topic is very complex.
first off no OS stated, opr. sys? XP
answering for XP. the dead OS.
No Optical drive label stated, vast models used and sold. for 12 years.
First off Ill say your XP drivers are bad, or the XP is infected as all are.
no photos presented of your Compaq install disks
so i can see then and read them with my eyes,
to know exactly what is there. wow.
if you cant read them in XP
that means XP is messed up or the drive is bad or the disk is bad.
so boot the disk using the BIOS.
ever use BIOS , it tells you how do that at every boot on the screen , like"hit F2 to enter bios setup)"
or some hot key, varies by year, mine is ESC.
if the disk boots and runs, Compaq, HP or Microsoft
then the DISK is ok and the PC is ok and the DVD drive is ok, leaving what, bad XP.

is XP fully updated to SP3?
XP has always had difficulty with optical drives.
not only that XP shut down support
so if you try to install MS drivers for this DVD drive how can it? XP is DEAD now.
ever go in to device manager and do search for missing devices, and be online doing that,
but wait , its now DEAD at MS this feature.

why not just get PC that has w7 on it
and end all this misery
$20 fix , buy a used PC that is not 12 old.
you want a PC nearer than year,2009 with a w7 COA sticker on the bottom. and win !

see cheap pc here far better....

Hi, This happens mainly when you play a lot of DVDs the lens inside the DVD drive gets scratches on it. May be It has a lot of scratches on it and it has the problem to read the DVDs and it stalls. You can clean your dvd lens with soft dry cotton and check if it works or a DVD player lens replacement is needed or replace the whole DVD Player. If your computer is under warranty it is replaced by the company for free.

Another option: To Watch your DVD items you can simply copy the DVD and paste it somewhere on your computer then you can use it smoothly.

Dvd player

Try using a head cleaner cd/dvd to see if that solves the problem. Failing to read a dvd but being ok with cds is norm a sign of drive startin to die. Dvds are harder for it to read due to smaller track width.
