It's a cartridge system -- no moving parts. There's no real maintenance needed. If you can still get ahold of a cleaning kit, that'll be the best thing to have:

The cartridge slot for my SNES won't open. It sorta opens half the way, but not enough to insert a game. Could I just buy tools on ebay and remove the whole cover? Or perhaps try to fiddle with it? Wo

It IS possible that something is inside of the SNES under the cover, or that the cover is damaged. You could try fiddling with the cover to try to wiggle out whatever part of it is stuck or damage, though you probably shouldn't be too forceful. You CAN remove the SNES cover to get a better look at what's wrong, but I recommend you do it only if you know what you're doing.Sorry I couldn't be of more help; try asking one of our SNES experts.Thank for using FixYa!

My SNES can't read the cartridge but I already cleaned the cartridge HELP!!!!!

Try giving the SNES itself a cleaning. It's good to keep both the game and the console free of any dust or debris that could hinder gameplay.

Problems with the gray box on my SNES

Well to fix the gray bock you would need to by a broken SNES console off of ebay to find the needed part if you find a broken SNES console with a working motherbaord you might be able to swap the parts then. And will need a bypass plug from radio shack to hook it al toghter then. Its not an easy task and has an 8 out of 10 chance of not working if you don't know what your doing then and a 4.5mm tool bit to open up the SNES too.

Picture is only black screen with white lines

Are the console and the TV both tuned to Channel 3 or Both to Channel 4. On the SNES there is a little switch on the bottom of the back labelled 3 on one side and 4 on the other.

Dead RF-out on SNES and vertical lines on Multi-out

The problem is likely in the IC soldered to your SNES circuitboard. The cheapest way to solve your problem is to replace the whole SNES circuitboard. These boards run about 20 dollars, Google part SNSPT007 or SNSPT009, depending upon if you have the older or newer version SNES. There is no soldering involved, so it should be an easy fix if you can open your SNES.

I'm missing a cable for my SNES but I don't know which one

its an rf cable you can buy third party ones if you search on the internet. also if you happen to have a video cable for gamecube or n64 you can plug that into the slot on the back of the snes and it will work. Im not sure what that slot is called but its the only one that cable will fit into.
