Is there possibly a flap at the back of the machine which can be closed. A lot of printers have a hinged door at the back to enabled access if a paper jam occurred. This door when closed, helps direct the paper to where it should be. Just a guess, i am unfmiliar with your particular machine.

The black cartridge (Brother LC51) doesn't print on my Brother MFC 685CW. The other 3 cartridges print just fine and passed the Print Quality Check. Running clean cycle doesn't help

In order to print in Black and White using grayscale, you will need to adjust the printing preferences within the driver. To change the printer properties complete the following steps:

1. Open the Printers Folder:

  • Windows 2000: Click Start => Settings => Printers.

  • Windows XP: Click Start => Printers and Faxes.

  • Windows Vista: Click the Start button => Control Panel => Hardware and Sound => Printers.

  • Windows 7: Click the Start button => Devices and Printers.

2. Right click on the Brother printer driver and left click Printing Preferences.

3. Click the Advanced tab.

4. Select Grayscale.

5. Click APPLY => OK. Your printer will now print in grayscale.

I can't get my brother printer to print photos Keeps saying paper jam even though no paper jam

One of the main causes for paper jams is the presence of dirt, dust, or debris in your toner cartridge. The paper coming into the cartridge would get stuck. So clean your printer regularly. Remove the dust from the printer. Also find out whether any jams occurred in the sensor hole in the upper part of the rotating drum. Do not touch the roller while cleaning. If the oil in your body gets into the roller, the printing media cannot roll over it properly and you can't get rid of the printer problem.

My brother printer model is mfc-685cw. i checked paper jam but my lcd screen say unable to print 50. I am unable to shut down also. Then i switch of my printer after one hour i started but again i saw same...

If there is no direct symptom of paper jam and still you cannot do printing properly, find whether it is because of drum problem. If the paper gets into the end gear of the rotating drum and gets stuck there, you cannot access the printing function. Switch off your printer and check the plastic arms of the printer drum. If there is any paper piece jammed in any of the arms, you can't continue printing. Here also cleaning is the best method to solve the problem. While cleaning, check the arms of the rotating drum.

Paper jam - took back off but can't see any paper

Open the top cover.. check if there is any residual paper .. if you can't find it behind.. most probably the paper is at the print head area..
if still can't find the paper, worst case is that your paper path sensor is broken..

When I scan a document, a black line the length of the page is seen on my scanned copy. What is causing this? I have cleaned the print head.

When you are scanning with the auto paper feed, if the scanning window has a spec on it, you get a line the lenght of the paper.

My Brother MFC-685CW has paper, no jam, but the rollers won't pick up the paper when i want it to photocopy. Why won't it pick up the paper - it keeps saying "no paper fed"

Toner complaint may also cause paper jams. It can be solved only by replacing it. When you switch on the loop back plug in, two flash lights appear; then it indicates paper jam. The oil spillage in toner can cause this problem. If the toner cartridge is not functioning properly, the same problem would be the result. The diodes or transistors in the fuser unit of the Multi Function Printer may get damaged and this can lead to fuser complaints. To solve this problem, you should replace it.

Paper is in the feed tray, but it continues to say NO Paper??? Brother MFC-8460N any suggestions?

Could be a tab or spring broken off of the feed tray, dirty feed roller can cause that error when paper doesn't feed. Paper guide too tight so that paper can't lift to the feed roller also a possibility. Sensor above paper stack out of position.. many possibilities.
