Question about Slant Fin Warm Mist GF-350 Humidifier

1 Answer

My Slant/Fin GF 350 suddenly will not heat the water and has the "fill/clean" red light on even though it is clean and has a new filter in it. there are no mineral deposits in the well, and no discernible deposits on the sensors, though the bottoms of those are hard to see. I have cleaned them though, and it still does not heat. It stopped right in the middle of working perfectly - it was on and boiling away, and then it was on and not humidifying at all. The water, usually warm to hot, is cold.

The rusted sensors are the cause of your problem - as soon as the sensors do not conduct an electric current through the water (either because there is no water or because they have decayed), the humidifier shuts itself off. You will need to replace the sensors. var viewReq = new Array();function vu(u) {var i=new Image();i.src=u.replace("&","&");viewReq.push(i);} vu("http://googleads.g.doubleclick.net/pagead/adview?ai\x3dB3Oe4m7gKTa-UBNCi6Qbh1uhIjbTQzgH1yJ29FJ2PiKQXABABGAEgADgBUIDH4cQEYMn-vYzYpOARggEXY2EtcHViLTMzODQ5NDYyODUzNTE5NTayAQ13d3cuZml4eWEuY29tugEKMzAweDI1MF9hc8gBCdoBTWh0dHA6Ly93d3cuZml4eWEuY29tL3N1cHBvcnQvdDY2NzU2OTctc2xhbnRfZmluX2dmXzM1MF9zdWRkZW5seV93aWxsX25vdF9oZWF0mAKsG8ACBMgCtZzVEeACAOoCIzYxNTMvZml4LmhvbWVnYXJkZW4vaGVhdGluZ19jb29saW5nqAMB6AO8BugDgQn1AwIAAATgBAE\x26sigh\x3dDErSUArfSlA") body { background: #FFFFFF; margin: 0px; padding: 4px; font-family: arial, verdana, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt; } p { margin:0px; padding:0px; } .spwrap { background: transparent url(/wysiwyg_rte/misspell.gif) repeat-x scroll center bottom; }

How do I clean it?

If you're asking how to clean the inner workings of the humidifier ... Run a 50/50 solution of White Vinegar and Water through it. Then flush it with Bottled Distilled Water. As a matter of fact, using Bottled Distilled Water all the time, will cut down on having to clean the unit as often. Distilled water has no minerals and will not produce scale, like tap water.

FILLING THE WATER TANKS
1. Before filling the water tanks, push the POWER switch to the “OFF” position and
unplug unit. Refer to cleaning instructions.
2. Remove water tanks from base, turn each tank upside down and remove tank cap
by turning counterclockwise. Fill tank with clean cold tap water.
Replace the tank cap by turning clockwise. Tighten firmly.
3. Carefully pick up tank, since it will be heavy when full, and slippery if wet.
4. Place water tanks on base. Make sure tanks are properly placed, otherwise, the
humidifier will not work correctly.

Humidifier says reserve tank is empty when it's not.

With this model it has not only been discontinued and difficult to find repair and replacement parts. I would suggest a new product. I wish that even in theses times I had more encourageing news because most of the time if its broke fix it..but this time, It's time to go shopping, also the company has sold twice, and now goes under two sub names. Have a great day. Thank you for your time.

Crust of sediment in hot water pot

Hi, Go to your grocery store and buy some cream of tartar which you can find in the spice section, it is a white water soluble powder. Dissolve about a teaspoon full in a pot of your coffee water, put in a filter with nothing in it and cycle the water through the coffee maker, if it is really scaled up do this a couple of times, discard the filters which probably will have some little white and yellow chunks in it and this should clean up the inside, you may have to soak the pot in the warm water with a little stronger solution. Good Luck!

Need a replacement tank

You'll be able to order a replacement tank through this link. They are currently out of stock for your tank but the site says they are getting more in. I would write to them and find out how long.

Good Luck.

Leaking rubber boot

Mine did the same thing at the end of last winter. I did not discover it to be one of the rubber tubes (boots as you say) until I went to use it this past fall. The manuf. said send it back for a replacement (they do not fix these or offer parts) which I did in Nov. and still have not received the replacement. Nice deal for them.

Humidifier doesn't work as it used to,,,,,

First check to see if the two water sensing probes have been cleaned. After cleaning, if the problem still persists, try the following.

There is a small thermostat switch that sits on the heating coil underneath. This thermostat is designed to prevent the coil from overheating when no water is present. What probably has happened is the switch is doing what is designed to do but has become defective and is opening and closing at a lower temperature. So what is happening is the red light reset indicator will come on because this switch opens, the coil starts to cool and the switch closes and the light goes off. Because it is defective, this is occurring when it shouldn’t, causing this maddening on/off cycle.

Fortunately, this sensor is easy to replace if you’re handy. Make sure you unplug the humidifier from power. Turn it over, remove six screws, and carefully lift the lid. Look toward the heating element and you will see a small button type device with two wires plugged into it and is attached with two screws off to the side of the element. This particular thermostat is obsolete and very difficult to find. However, there is an excellent substitute made by Stancor for around $5.00. Their part number is STO-325.

Remove the two screws and lift off the thermostat and slide the wire connectors off. Simply reverse the process for installation and be careful to replace the bottom lid, being careful not to crimp the wiring.

Clean/refill light

My Slant Fin humidifier has a floating, ring-shaped magnetic level that isn't replaceable. You can't even tell it's magnetic until you cut off the piece that prevents the white plastic float from rising past a certain point. It turns out that there is a ring-shaped magnet in the float.

I found that the Refill light would go off when I held a strong magnet near the float device.

So, I have suspended the magnet with string from the top of the humidifier outside the humidifier.

Caution: This fix disables the safety feature inherent in the low level shut off. I wonder why the manufacturer uses material that corrodes?
