Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

I have a GE GSS25JEMD-BB side by side refrigerator that I need to move but will have to lay it down on it's side. I understand that if I lay it down that it would be best if I do so in which the compressors discharge and return lines are pointing up so the oil will not leak out. I have read that it is ok for the process tube is ok to be pointing down. Does anyone know which way the discharge and return lines point? And so I will know which way to lay it down. I only have to move it a fairly short distance (about 20 minutes drive). Thank you for any help!

It dont matter which way you lay it down BUT you have to let it sit for 24 hours before plugging it in and I STRESS 24 hours.

GE model GTS22WCP can I lay it on it's side or back to transport?

it is not recommended to lay an appliance with a compressor, the reason is that the compressor oil will run to one side and the appliance will not function properly. i have heard that if laid down the make sure to stand the appliance upright for several days before plugging it in.

Moved unit, wont get cold

did you transport it upright or laying down.... depending on who you talk to you will get a different answer... i have been in the appliance business for 18 years and have to say the more i hear they are transported laying down the more i hear troubles... either way after transported or moved they should be left sitting for approx. 24 hours to allow all the oil to settle back down,,,also could have developed a leak in the sealed system one of the refrigerant lines leaking.

GE refrigerator

this may be water from the defrost cycle. if this drains to tray over compressor, check tray is not too full (water evaporates from heat of compressor) otherwise defrost water will go to a seperate container which may have a split or is overflowing. fault can also be caused by poor door seals which would produce too much ice on evaporator pipes
