Question about Car Audio & Video

1 Answer

1993 volvo 850 GLT factory stereo only powers rear speakers. continuity exists between speakers & plug to back of deck. when front rear fader control is set to power front speakers no sound unless volume is set to maximum, and even then only a tiny amount of sound barely noticeable. Is problem in front rear fader control or actual output in deck to front speakers? How can I repair this problem without buying a new deck. I have considerable electronics knowledge and a digital multi-meter w/ohms,voltage, capacitance etc.?

first check to see that the fader is not programmed to the front speakers fading it rear might solve your problem, second if your stereo has a 4 ohm load requirement at the output and your new speakers are 8 ohms this will cut the power output in half, your best bet is to get an amp if these do not solve the problem.

1993 Volvo GLT 850 Electrical things won't work

I'd be taking the dash apart looking for burnt wires in a harness, so you will likely have to take the outer cover off some of the bundles. Start tracing back from the plug in for the radio. Hope this helps.

Code stereo volvo 1993 850 GLT

If you need the security code, you need to call a Volvo dealer and give them the VIN number, provided it is the same stereo the car came with.  Most dealers will do it for free, if you can't find one, call Boston Volvo Village.

Hello,
Have you made sure the rotor is turning in the distributor, as this sound like a cambelt failure.
Sorry to bear bad tidings if this is so.

My volvo 850 GLT

the factory plug wires last about 200,000 miles/if the cars runs ok other than stalling at idle and has no check engine light on the the next step is on the drivers front of engine remove the air intake hose and clean the throttle body with carb spray cleaner and remove the idle control valve mounted to the front side of it and also flush it out
