Panasonic PV-GS39---playback problems

The other day I went to play something back on my camera and a message came up (cant remember exactly what, something along the lines of Not Able to Play) and I could not play it back and then it told me to press the reset button. So I pressed reset, a few times actually. When I went to playback mode again, nothing was showing up on the tape. I kept pressing plau but nothing happened...so I rewinded and fastfowarded all the way through and still nothing. I put in a different tape with footage on it, and nothing showed up still. So today I tried it again and now it is saying there is footage, but now it is playing it back with blue lines going through the middle, or it is just becoming blue and showing little pixels of the footage. I have no idea how to fix it.... What can i do?

Hi guys...I need help still. I got the video tape cleaner and tried it (twice) and i am still having problems. Whenever I play any tapes, their are still blue lines coming across the screen and I don't know what to do! Did i break something inside the tape port or whatever??

  • SoggyCereal Jun 16, 2008

  • SoggyCereal Jun 17, 2008

I have the same problem. Blue horizontal lines when playback tapes. I even recorded some footage on my gs39 and tried to playback on another camera but still seing the blue lines in the other camera also. It seems that whatever i playback or whatever i record will have the same blue lines on it. I pushed the reset buttom few times and use the head cleaner tape as well, but nothing seems to fix the problem. This camera is almost new.

I ' ve used it very few times only. I'm wondering is there is any " RECALL " for this product. Please let me know if so. Thanks !!!

Everytime i goto record or playback my tape, the camara says hit the reset button, so i hit it and then try to do it again and the screen pops up again. or it turnes off, then when i take the tape out, the film is falling out of the tape. everything looks in place...i did not drop it or do anything wrong to it.. it just started doing this.

Have you tried plugging the camcorder into your TV set or computer (if your computer has the right stuff)? Does it play back properly that way.

It could be dirty video heads. That just takes a video tape cleaner to fix. There available at most electronic and drug stores. Make sure you wait about 10 mins after cleaning before inserting your tape.

Does it do the same thing when you plug it into an electrical outlet?

You better take in to get it serviced. It could be the take motor or a head adjustment needed.

Yes. They will know if it is and what it will cost you to fix. Visual inspections don't cost anything in there.

Firewire

Okay then let's start with that. Download the drivers from:

http://www2.panasonic.com/consumer-electronics/support/Cameras-Camcorders/Camcorders/MiniDV-Camcorders/Drivers-Downloads/model.PV-GS39.D#ts

Install the drivers and you should be good to go! Let me know if you're having any problems after that.

Download PV-GS39 cam recorder drivers

Hello. I also have the PV-GS39. I had the same problem as you have, here is what I DID to resolve my problem.

1.Go to: http://www2.panasonic.com/consumer-electronics/support/Cameras-Camcorders/Camcorders/MiniDV-Camcorders/Drivers-Downloads/model.PV-GS39.D

the above link will take you RIGHT to the web page to download the PV-GS39 Software & Drivers that YOU WILL HAVE TO HAVE. But if you have WINDOWS VISTA then you can use the WINDOWS MOVIE MAKER software that is ALREADY PRE-INSTALLED on your PC then you will NOT have to download the software from the above link.

2. You HAVE TO have a: FIREWIRE IEEE 1394 PCMCIA NOTEBOOK CARD. I got mine at: Best Buy for: $53.86 with taxes. the name of this card is: DYNEX FIREWIRE IEEE 1394 PCMCIA NOTEBOOK CARD.

3. You ALSO hae to buy the CORD that connects to the PV-GS39 and the DYNEX FIREWIRE IEEE 1394 PCMCIA NOTEBOOK CARD, the cord costs $36.79 ALSO at Best Buy.

I did ALL 3 of the above and now I'm copying my movies and videos from my tape in my camcorder onto my PC and BURNING the video onto DVD/CD Disks.

If you have any questions, you can email me at: uggyredmonster@comcast.net.

Sincerely,
Rick D. Michaels

Blue Bars and No Sound

My advice is that you should by a DV cleaning cassette. Put this in the camera and run it for 10 to 20 seconds only. running the cleaning cassette for a long time may damage the head.
good luck!

PV-GS9 mini dv playback problem

I covered several threads that recommended buying a Mini DV cleaner and running it up to 4 times. They also suggested to change to change your video tape as it may have been the cause of the original problem.

These solutions may have worked for many but not me. My camera was becoming progressively worse. It went to blue bars and no sound to no picture at all...just blue. After using a cleaner 4 times I became frustrated to the point I was going to buy a new camera.

However, with the camera still playing, I did the typical guy thing and rolled up my fist and gave it a good hit along side of it. Remarkably it went back to just the blue bars. I hit it again and it went back to a perfect picture. I'm not saying this will work for you and hitting it too hard could make things worse but I was at a point where I didn't care any more and took a chance that paid off.
