I've tried to find the right group for this, I hope I'm in the
right place. I'm trying to decide whether to get the LG GCC-4320B
Combo Drive or not. If something goes wrong with the DVD reader, does
that mean the entire drive is not able to be used ? I like being able
to get both, but am not sure if it's a good idea in one drive. If
anyone can help, I'd greatly appreciate it.
Thanks,
Al

You are correct sir. If the DVD drive fails, the CD part probably won't work
either.
I had trouble with the Roxio software bundled with this drive and had to
remove it. There were conflicts with my video editing solution (Vegas Video
3). I may retire this combo drive to a less critical workstation on my home
network.

Don't know about the LG, but I've had a Ricoh MP9200A for a year and only
suffered slight DVD playback problems due to outdated firmware. Since
updating the drive has been fine. Bear in mind having 2 drives uses up
another IDE channel. If you have an old CD drive you can always keep it
within reach should the worst happen.
Incidentally, the Roxio software bundled with the LG is known to clash with
several flavours of Windows (esp. XP), so you may want to get hold of Nero
instead.
