HP 3055 AIO prevents boot-up / causes lock-ups in Win2000

Hello Gents,

I am running Win2000 on an Athlon/MSI board, 523 MB RAM, 80 Gb HDD and have recently purchased and installed an HP 3055 AIO.

I have loaded the full install of the HP 3055 AIO drivers and applications, but not the READIRIS PRO software (which caused no end of problems on a previous HP machine).

PROBLEM #1

Upon boot-up the Win2000 splash screen comes on but the progress bar stops at about the 2/3rds point --- ****-cold.

In order to get the machine to boot up, you have to reboot the machine and unplug the usb printer cable.

Once booted, the PC works normally and you can obtain printed hardcopies by plugging in the USB cable for the HP 3055 and hitting print.

PROBLEM #2

Occasionally, when using WordPerfect 9.0, while the HP 3055 is connected, particularly when a part of highlighted text is being cut and pasted, the machine locks up or freezes. The mouse cursor freezes in place and what you have is a complete lock-up.

The machine will not respond to a Ctrl-Alt-Del reboot command and must be restarted in order to clear the error.

This new machine is intended to increase productivity, not give rise to an endless series of headaches. Please advise.

Sledgehammer is standing by.

Kopfjaeger reporting back.

Rotated this printer to a secondary machine.

Found I could make it work through a kludge.

I have a four-device USB switchbox. The top or normal position switch is on an empty connector (A). After booting the machine and getting to a point when I need to print, then I switch to B, where the printer is connected.

Print and move on.

Sometimes will have to use the STOP USB DEVICE, and then switch back to A in order to shut the machine down without freezing.

Pretty unsatisfactory and I wonder what brainchild coded the driver software to be such a pain with Win2000.

Next time, I will be looking at *other* (Non-HP) printers much more closely.

"FORMATTER BOARD?"

English please. Never heard of this creature.

Is that like 100 yards of Flight Line or a Flagpole key?

SOURCE: HP 3055 prevents boot up in Win2000, causes lockup when connected

Actually I deleted the PCL 6 drivers which had been installed by the original HP driver CD, went to the HP website and downloaded the PCL 5e drivers instead.

I also added a USB switchbox between the PC and Printer, leaving the default setting as disconnected. Now, it boots up fine, without having the HP printer connected.

In use, I wait until just before I need to print a document, switch the USB selector to connected and obtain hardcopies of my documents.

Then, to ensure against screen lockups / freezing, I switch the USB selector back to disconnected.

It's a kludge and not what you should have to do for a $400 laser printer AIO device.

Naturally, I am completely unimpressed with HP software engineers, who have a functionality somewhat below Dilbert and his crew.

I'm can't load the software for my HP AIO Photosmart C6180. Get a MSI error that I can not repair. Need some help here.

Hi Try downloading the software from the HP website http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=ph〈=en&product=1153494& then run the setup on the downloaded file, if you have vista or windows 7 then right click on the setup file and select run as administrator. Hopefully this will solve the msi error, if it does not, please tell me exactly what error you receive.

Error 2753 HP3055

My Scenario:

OS: MS Windows XP SP3 [Version 5.1.2600]
Printer: HP LaserJet 3390 (AiO) (Firmware datecode: 20070331)
Printer Connection: Connected via Ethernet with a static IP address
HP Driver Version: v4.0 (hp_LJ3050-3052-3055-3390-3392_Full_Solution_AMWE.exe)

Ran into same error that everyone else is experiencing. (see below)

Now Launching=X:\hpzmsi01.exe -m dot4msi -l XXX -f X:\DIVins??.DAT
Error message received: The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2753.
X:\HPZBDI32.msi failed with return code 1603
MSIInstall() failed with 1603
Exit code=1603

After debugging HP's installation scripts for 2 days, here is the cause & solution I identified to this specific install error. Once I got passed this error, everything installed without error and all functionality was working properly (including scanning!).

BACKGROUND:

Microsoft Installer (MSI) error 1603 is simply a generic "A fatal error occurred during installation" -- see http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa368542(VS.85).aspx. This is basically MSI telling you that something very bad has happened during the installation. In order to get more details, you can turn on MSI debug logging by following this MS Knowledge Base article (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/223300).

The MSI error code 2753 is the code for "The File '<file name>' is not marked for installation.". This error can be triggered by many scenarios, but usually, it has to do with the actual installation script not properly checking for the existence/non-existence of an installation file and then not marking it for either installation/removal. I know this sounds confusing, and it is. If your curious about all the possible causes, just Google for "msi 2753 not marked for installation" and you'll see lots of results which you can peruse for your own enjoyment.

In order to identify what was causing these 2 errors, I enabled debugging for MSI via the aforementioned MS KB article

CAUSE:

Certain HP services (and associated DLL files) were somehow partially/improperly installed. (Possibly, from a previous failed install?)

The Windows services (files) were:

Pml Driver HPZ12 (C:\Windows\System32\HPZipm12.dll)
Net Driver HPZ12 (C:\Windows\System32\HPZinw12.dll)

The existence of these 2 files in the System32 directory was causing this error in my situation. Somehow, the installation script was not identifying that these files were already installed (or improperly installed) and failing to properly set them to be installed again.

SOLUTION:

Steps:

1) Check to make sure that the 2 Windows services above are not running (or not installed).
2) Rename/delete the 2 associated service DLL files (this will only be possible once the services are stopped)
3) Run the installation again.

If all goes well, the install should now run without any issues.

Hope this helps since many people (including myself) have spent a lot of time (and HP Support chats) trying to find a workaround for this issue.

If you find this solution helped you out, please feel free to make a small donation to my PayPal ;)

No booting

The problem is Operating systems are co-dependent on hardware.
If the motherboards, processors, ram, video adapters, etc don't match you would not be able to swap hard drives and expect to boot.

You could try pressing F8 on boot and try to access safemode.

If it does boot into safemode immediately it will want to reactivate windows.(because of all the hardware changes.

If it still can't boot, you may want to put the 80 gig in as slave to the 40gig and ghost the 40 gg hard drive over to the 80.

If you don't want to lose your data on the 80 gig then reboot with an xppro cd and reinstall windows in the same partition overlaying the installation on top of existing windows directory.

the new windows will have to be activated but all data will still be there.
