My hp 2015dn printer's status page says initialing and has a ip 169.x.x.x address. It had a manual address that was totally different. Without an on-hardware menu, how do I change the ip?

Every network printer or print server has a unique IP address associated
with it. This address is either configured manually or set using an
automatic network protocol such as the boot protocol, reverse address
resolution protocol or zeroconf. You can normally find the IP address of
a printer on the printer's control panel or by printing the
configuration page. Select the printers and faxes tab from the control
panel. Right click on the printer those you want to find the IP address
and click properties. Then click on the ports tab to display the IP
address of your printer.
Take out the Network Confirguration page from the printer.
To get the page.
Press the setup button.
Go to Network Setup>>>View Network Settings>>Network Configuration page. Press OK to get it printed.
Note down the IP address of the printer.
Then Go to The Printers folder under Control Panel.
Make right click on the printer icon and select Properties or printer properties in case of windows 7.
Go to Ports tab.
Click on Add a Port. Select Create a new port and select Standard TCP/IP
Enter the IP address that you have noted down from the Cofiguration Page.
And complete the Add a port wizard.
Then restart the printer.
. If you are using a DSL router, then enter Manual IP to the Printer.
Make sure it is different from the IP of other devices on network.
You must have default gateway, subnet mask information about the network.
To get the details. Open Command Prompt on your computer from All Programs>>Accessories.
Enter ipconfig and press enter.
Then note down the IP address, default gateway and subnet mask.
To enter the manual IP to the printer, Press setup button. Go to Network Setup. Select Advance Settings>>>>IP Settings>>>manual IP.
Enter Ip address of priner as 192.168.001.023.
The default gateway must be 192.168.1.1, make sure that first 3 set of numbers are same. like 192.168.1, last 3 should be different from the computer's one.
Enter the same default gateway and same subnet mask
And after adding the manual IP, use ADD a Port option. Restart the printer and then check the status.
To make sure, make a right click on the printer icon and select Use Printer Online.
In order to set IP address, make sure printer kit/NIC is installed. Plugged network cable, Press Program button--> Initial Setup-->Network-->TCP/IP to configure IP address. Once finish, back to Network-->Complete to save the settings.
*Machine need to initialize network during startup, once finish initialize network then only u're able to access network settings. A status page will print out by default after finish initialized network.

Hi, Switch off the printer and press * & enter key together &switch on wait till you see " permanent storage int" then release button your printer comes back to original defaults then re-configure printer as you require
I would suggest that you set a higher Ip address then 9-10 as it is possible that your router/switch is possibly using one of these for DHCP,
I have one of these myself, I had to put mine a little uprange to prevent my router / switch from interfering with it.
