I have the same problem. I tried pushing in the buton/jumper where the battery door piece would normally push and turning the camera on at the same time - this seemed to work for a second, as the camera powered on, but I think I may have damaged the actuator button even more and now I can not get it to do it again.

It could be a piece that holds the battery in the compartment.

What happens when you plug it into an electrical outlet?

The little white peice is what holds ur battery cover closed i think, so without a closed cover it cant really function. i think so anyway

How much memmory support does it provide nikon coolpix p4 vr

The P4 has about 23MB of internal memory, which might hold five pictures at the camera's best resolution. The camera also accepts SD cards up to 2GB in size, which should hold several hundred pictures. And, of course, you can use multiple cards.

I woold like to use a 8GB for my coolpix P4. May you sugest me if it is possible and which brand ?

Unfortunately, you can't. The P4 only works with SD cards, and SD cards max out at 2GB in size. This is a hardware issue and cannot be changed by a firmware update.

Good Day, I have Nikon coolpix P4. The manual states 1GB SD card max. What is the Max SD card I can really use? Can I use SDHC Memory Cards and up to what size: tks Bat

Do you have any reason to doubt the manual? If the manual doesn't specify SDHC, then I wouldn't bother trying any but stay with SD only.

A white piece fell out from the spot next to the memory chip of my Nikon coolpix P4 camera, now the camera will not turn on, can you tell me what this piece is for and if my camera can be fixed, thanks

if you feel technically inclined you can open the camera carefully and take it apart to the point where you can remove the upper circuit board ( NOTE 1: make a careful note of every screw you remove since they are different size and need to be used exactly in the same order) and then the small black plastic assembly above the circuit board below, you can see the defective switch on top of the 2nd board, remove the plastic part of the switch until you see the bare 2 contacts on the circuit board, solder a small piece of wire to bridge the contacts, now very carefully reassemble the camera observing the exact order of screws used, see NOTE 1. If everything is back in order insert the battery and the camera should work now.
note: should you not be inclined to do this work and want to sell the camera as is for spare parts I am interested, drop me a note at: cocnutray at yahoo.com. A Nikon repair shop will charge between $80 to $110 FOR THIS TYPE OF REPAIR, THEY WILL ACTUALLY REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE MICRO-SWITCH. HOPE THIS HELPS :-)

Wont turn on

The problem is a tiny microswitch which is located between the battery slot and the SD card slot,

White plastic between card slot and battery charges plz

Ok, I Joe McGee'd the issue -- take a small piece of tin foil -- make it fit the hole area. Insert it and poke it into each open "port" on both side -- pack it in with a pin --

Mine is working fine now -- not sure how long, but it works.

My camera dose not whant to turn on.

The problem is usually cuase by a broken microswtich which is located between the battery slot and the SD card slot and it is activated by a tab in the battery cover.
