Re: pioneer deh 1600 has no power
Well.. if there is smoke coming from the head unit, the head unit could be bad. It odviously may have a wire crossed or a fuse blown, or even the wire harness could be bad. First, check the fuse for the radio on drivers side door, then check the other fuse box under the hood. Make sure all radio fuses are intact and not blown. Second, check behind the head unit to make sure no wires are touching each other and shorting out. Third, if nothing else helps, buy a new head unit & wiring harness :]

Not to question you about the red being constant power but I have a pioneer deh-1600 car stereo and red is hooked to electric terminal controlled by ignition switch (on/off) and if your unit has a yellow wire that goes to constant power. The only problem with hooking up the red wire to constant would be if you happened to accidentally leave your player on it could drain the battery. Hope this helped a little. Good luck.

The memory wire is usually the yellow wire in the harness - it goes to a constant 12v (battery) source. That's how the cd player remembers all of your presets. The red wire (the other power wire) is connected to a switched 12v source, so it only sees power when the key is on. That is why the cd player shuts off when you turn the key off.
