When the dryer is turned on it makes a noise as though the bearings are rubbing on metal. After a while the noise disappears.

This is most likely one of the following.
1.Drum support roller is dried out or dirty.
2.Idler pulley is dried out or dirty.
3.bearing in motor is going bad.
4.The drum slides are wore out or there is something stuck between drum and seal.
I need a model # if you want more info on how to repair. Although I wound not recommend this unless you are mechanically inclined.

Dryer is making a scratching noise

Could be something simple like a coin or other metal object caught in the drum edge and rubbing as it turns. Next could be a bad or worn bearing surface for the drum causing it to rub metal on metal instead of riding on the proper bearing surface like it should. Metal on metal rubbing usually produces a black powder looking substance so look for that or a shiny metal edge around the drum edges.

My dryer is a model number GLER341AS2 and when I turn it on it makes a sreeching noise. Now the screeching has turned into a louder noise almost like a rubbing thud.

The symptoms you describe indicate that your dryer drum bearings are faulty: there is usually a large 'felt' bearing around the opening which support the drum and prevent metal to metal contact (screeching noises)- The drum must be removed to get to this front bearing (which is normally glue to the dryer front panel at the drum opening): it is not a trivial job and is not normally replaceable by end-users.

Hope the explanation helps.

GE dryer DCVH515 - making noise when in use - metal rubbing? Any thoughts?

Hi peggymaag...
You have drum rollers that need lubrication or replacement...also you felt seal at the door may need to be replace if it is a metal to metal contact that is making the metal rubbing noise or it could be the drum bearing is going bad and making the metal noise you hear.
I will include a webpage so you can see your dryer and order the parts necessary for the repair of your dryer
Please take time to rate me 4 thumbs up

DRYER MODEL DE7400P FRIGIDAIRE IS MAKE NOISE LIKE RUBBING METAL HOW DO I FIX?

Hi martyski39...

ALWAYS UNPLUG YOUR DRYER BEFORE STARTING ANY REPAIRS
Your dryer drum is mounted in the rear with a bearing, most likely the bearing is faulty and making the grinding noise, or maybe two conditions exist.
1...Bad drum bearing noisy
2...Bad drum bearing noisy, and with play in the bearing allowing the drum to rub the felt seal away at the door making metal to metal contact.Check your door for obvious rub signs...
I will include a parts house webpage link where you can look at you "exploded" view of your dryer and order parts also.

When the dryer gets hot, the tumbler begins to make a continous squeaking noise as if there is metal to metal; not a grinding noise. If you allow it to cool down and restart, it doesn't start until it...

Well ya never mention in your question what brand you have but a GE or Hotpoint dryer has a small plastic insert that wears thin over time. It begins to do a squeak squeak squeak type of noise. And that noise is intermittent, on a Frigidaire model the noise would start out low and gradually get worse. The bearing sometimes gets so bad it gets chopped off and the tub falls into the heating element.

My dryer is making a loud squeaking noise when it

All dryers have to have a way of allowing the tumbler (that's the thing you put the clothes in) to turn freely, not all of them are the same tho, some use bearings, some use slides, others use rollers. Over time these rollers will need to be oiled, the slides will get thin and start metal to metal contact causing a noise, The rear bearings will then start to make their way to china and cause the tumbler to rub into the heating element and OUCH! These things will cause the motor to prematurely DIE! Its best to examine the dryers, rollers, and slides when you first hear the noise, but who does?

GE GAS DRYER DDE7500G

Can you push the drum up and down. If so then the main bearing has gone bad and needs to be replaced. This is the only metal on metal rubbing you will get unless the machine is off balanced. This is caused usually by doing to heavy of loads and wearing out the bearing

Drum making sqeaky noise

The squeak is the rear bearing mount rubbing on the hanger ball. The plastic bearing is gone and that metal piece is cutting a groove into the ball mount. I have a picture. If the ball will be cut off and the drum will fall into the heating element and the belt will break. Not good!
8a3a785.jpgTo get to this bearing you must pop the top and get the belt loose, lift out the drum and inspect the bearing. The kit is fairly reasonable. This is something that a DIYer can easily handle.
