I always tell people NOT to buy new batteries to try and fix their cordless phone. It seems to rarely solve the problem and you are usually better off just spending the money on a new phone. Unfortunately 5 years is a long time for cordless phones these days. There are so many brands, and so many thousands of models, it's impossible to keep track of them all.

I know it sounds silly but you may just need to check your messages on your phone then the blinking light should go off.
