2. Click START -> RUN or in the START SEARCH LINE:
3. Type in X:\PROGRAM FILES\BROTHER\CONTROLCENTER3\SKIN\ (Note: Replace X: with the letter of your local disk drive.)
4. Right click on the MODERNSTYLE folder
5. Select CUT
6. Click START -> RUN or in the START SEARCH LINE:
7. Type in C:\PROGRAM FILES\BROTHER\CONTROLCENTER3\
8. Click EDIT -> PASTE
9. Restart the PC
10. The Control Center will open and you should see the icon appear nearyour system clock if the control center does not start automatically: Open the Brother Control Center 3 by clicking START -> (ALL) PROGRAMS ->BROTHER -> (MODEL NUMBER) -> CONTROLCENTER 3. Your issue should be resolved.

Try to make first a PDF from your document (you can try 'save as' or 'export to' in the menu of your software application). Then try to print that pdf and see if it is printing still slow.

My MFC 8860DN does not scan or copy but instead says please wait

Turn the machine off and hold menu while turning it on and keep holding it while the machine starts up. This should go into maint mode.

When it gets into maint mode you can try 99 to exit. This is like a soft reset. Hard reset is hitting 01 in maint mode and then 99 to exit.

Let me know if this is helpful.

When i scan the images are black and white not color

Reset the device when it is not functioning properly. If the device is not functioning properly or to clear memory, reset it.
  1. On the operator panel, press and hold the <ON/OFF> button for one second. (The display will go blank.)
Note: It may be necessary to unplug the power cord if pressing the ON/OFF button does not shut off the printer.
  2. Wait approximately ten seconds and then press the <ON/OFF> button again.
  3. Wait until the device has completed its cycling process before submitting another job request.

Selecting a Response to Commands from the Operation Panel
You can specify a response resulting from pressing the <Color Start> or <Black Start> button on the machine. Setting the response with MP Navigator allows you to scan documents easily.
Important:
With network connection, only MP Navigator can be launched. Configure the settings accordingly.
With USB connection, with Windows XP, the program selection dialog box will be displayed the first time you press the <Color Start> or <Black Start> button on the machine, as shown below. Select 'MP Navigator', select the 'Always use this program for this action' checkbox, and then click 'OK'. By specifying this setting, selecting any scan mode launches MP Navigator, and the selected action will be performed.

1. Click the Windows 'Start' button, then click 'Control Panel' (Non-Windows XP: click the 'Start' button, then click 'Settings' -> 'Control Panel').

2. In the resulting window, click 'Printers and Other Hardware', then click (or double-click) 'Scanners and Cameras'.

3. Right-click the scanner icon for the machine, then click 'Properties'.

4. On the 'Events' tab, in 'Actions', specify the setting to launch MP Navigator. Specify 'MP Navigator Ver2.1' for 'Select an event' and for all events. (Windows 98/Windows 2000: Select an event in 'Scanner events' and specify 'MP Navigator Ver2.1' for 'Send to this application'.) If the settings are already configured to launch MP Navigator, click 'Cancel' to exit.

Setting actions for the <Color Start> and <Black Start> buttons with MP Navigator

MP Navigator enables you to specify the response resulting from pressing the <Color Start> or <Black Start> button on the machine. You can specify the response individually for each event.

1. On the Windows desktop, double-click 'MP Navigator 2.1'. Alternatively, click '(All) Programs' from the <Start> button on the Windows taskbar, point to 'Canon Utilities', then 'MP Navigator 2.1'. Then click 'MP Navigator 2.1'.
MP Navigator opens

2. Click 'Preferences', and specify settings in the Color Button and Black Button tabs to determine the response resulting from pressing the <Color Start> or <Black Start> button on the machine.

Scanning

One approach that works for me is to scan the document at high resolution and then shrink it afterwards. For some reason this seems to result in higher quality than scanning at the final (lower) resolution in many cases. For example I use ACDSee Photo Manager to scan or post process a scan from elsewhere. Within ACDSee there is an option in the jpg output (file save as) dialog for quality versus compression. I set this to default to the highest compression and resave the jpg or convert to jpg if the file did not start out that way. This generally shrinks the file by up to 2x or even 4x without any degradation that I can see. For example the screen capture below went from 39k to 18k after this step with no resolution change. If that is not enough I then perform a resize operation, for example 50% which would further reduce the file size down to a quarter of the input size (the dimensions in each direction would shrink by 50%. Even after shrinking, I find that files lookbetter than if they had simply been scanned at the final resolution.f611aa5.jpg
