I can't get my self timer to work per the instructions in the users manual. Can't ever see the 2 or 10 sec icon in the LCD screen.  Any suggestions?

I have the same problem, as the original poster...it is not the LCD screen on the back, but, indeed, the panel at the top, it either goes blank, or will not show the timer icon in the lower left hand corner, no matter which way the Quick Control Dial is turned. Neither will it allow me to select the Drive mode.

-   When I press the 'AF DRIVE' button, the LCD screen on the 40D goes blank, and no options present themselves. I can't take self-timer pictures at this point. Suggestions? -   cshigley

The self timer icon should show up on the LCD panel, on top of the camera on the right side.
