Zoom Error My camera will no longer turn on. When I press the power button, I get a few flashing lights, and then after a while a "Zoom Error" message appears and the camera starts beeping. I have replaced the batteries to no effect.

Hello

The problem is that the lens has become stuck in the barrel. There are some DIY solutions you could try, but the probability is that you will have to get it fixed by a professional.

Use these at own risk as it may further damage the camera.

Firstly , try connecting your ac adapter or usb cable.

Try holding the shutter button while switching on the camera.

Look at the lens , and if some of the lens 'circles' is misaligned or not concentric then try wiggling it (while holding camera lens down).

Try gently pushing or pulling the lens when it extends but this is risky as it may cause the lens barrel to slip out of its guidance system.

Another way to do this is to place the camera lens down on a hard surface and then power it up. Be sure to use a soft cloth or something similar as to not scratch your lens or casing. Let the lens push the camera up and down a few times and sometimes the little resistance provided by the camera is enough to get things going again.

Try hitting your camera near the lens on the body with the soft tissue on the palm of your hand.

Other than that , I would take the camera to a repair center for a evaluation to see if it would cost more to repair than to replace the camera.

If it is still under warranty I would suggest you take it in before trying any of these steps and remove any off-brand batteries or accessories as some stores are really fussy about warranty repairs on camera's with non-brand accessories.

You can also have a look at THIS link.

Hope the advise is useful. please do not hesitate to let me know if you need any further assistance.

Regards
Andrea

How do you turn the flash on? (with the vivitar vivicam 8018)

Your camera has a built in flash function which enables you to take photos when the light condition is not good.

1. Press the Up button. (for reference of buttons, please see the below figure mentioned)
2. Press the Up button once until you see the icon appear on the LCD screen. This indicates that the flash is forced on.
3. Press the Up button again to change to the auto flash function.
4. The icon will appear at the top of the LCD indicating that the auto flash is turned on and ready to use.
5. Press the Up button again to change from the auto flash to the red eye function.
6. The icon will appear on the LCD indicating that the red eye reduction function has been activated.
7. To turn off the flash function, press the Up button again until the icon is displayed on the LCD.

Note: A “Low Power” message will appear on the LCD screen, if you select the flash function when the battery power is insufficient. To continue using the camera with the flash, please change new batteries

Zoom will not work at all get error turn off camera

The unit attempts to get the lens into a known position when the power is first turned on. If this fails to complete properly, the message you see will be displayed. It is hoped that the power off/on/reset will cure the problem. Since the message appears all the time, the zoom/fucus motor is either stuck or the mechanism is jammed. Some people say to gnetly tap the side of the unit while the power-on sequence is running. This may be enough to release the gearing. Short of that working, I would recommend that you take this to a service center. They will clean and relube the gears inside.

Lens does not zoom in

This is not a common error on canon digital. This is caused due to possible short in zoom control circuit (main pcb). At normal use, if the lens does not retract due to mechanical jam, when the zoom control button is pressed, lens error 18 message supposed to be displayed. Since control circuit is shorted and faulty, error 18 message was not displayed. The remedy for this problem probably requires a replacement of a main pcb. Replacing a main circuit board may run around $100-140. -James

Camera really messed up!

Have you tried taking out the batteries and leaving it alone for a bit, then loading new batteries? I would try this first before anything. Good Luck.

Zoom error message

Press the power button on and hold it down while extending and twisting the telescopic zoom lens. It might fix your problem. In any case it could not make it worse Good luck!
