Check the headphone jack to see if you're getting sound out of it - it might not be the sound card rather a setup issue.

there is a socket in your laptop in a D shape with 15 pin. Connect a PC monitor in that terminal and turn on your laptop if you can see you desktop on that monitor then your video card isn't working or your lcd screen isn´t working anymore.

possible u are having issue with the sound card, most of Dell inspiron system's got integrated sound card u might need to have replacement for the motherboard and it might resolve the issue rebooting byt itself. You might want to consider reinstalling the OS first before hardware replacement.

My Sound was working this morning before I turned it off and took it to a meeting when I came home all the sould devices indicate they are workin gand I checked the Mute. I can't get any sound on the...

your laptop doesn't have a sound card. It's integrated.
you can try to update the driver if that does not work check if you have the right device on default in the sound panel, if it still doesn't work run the diagnostics on the speakers, and if it make any sound in the diagnostics there something wrong with the os,
If not then you'll need to replace internal speakers.

Dear Sir,

Welcome to Fixya Expert zone,

By analyzing your Dell laptop model it comes with inbuilt graphics card.So you cant able to replace your graphics card, and also it is not possible to install another internal graphic card.So solution is you can buy and install external USB graphics card.

I think it helps to resolve your laptop issue. If you have any problem regarding this issue leave a feedback we were happy to assist you.

Windows doesn't recognize my sound card and I can't locate a driver, for it. I don't think the sound card is bad, as it worked before I reformatted my harddrive and added the software.

Install the latest Sound driver from the website.

link: support.dell.com
Click on "Drivers & Downloads",
Enter your "Service Tag",
Locate the right driver, download it.. & Install it.

Hope it works....

I have a dell d430 but sound decided to stop working

Be sure your speakers / headphones are plugged into the correct port. There are several, try each one.

If you still fail to recieve sound from your system, check to make sure the speakers / headphones are functioning properly. If all else fails, you can usually find a cheap surroundsound PCI card for anywhere between $14 - $30 at your local computer componant outlet.
