There are only two connectors on a SATA drive, namely POWER and DATA.
Check that both cables are securely connected.

Try the disk-drive in some other computer.

HP a600n will not recognize a new SATA hard drive. I upgraded the bios, but nothing happened. The motherboard allows for sata, so I do not believe no additional controllers are needed.

I suggest you run this by HP, especially since your computer has provisions for connection of a SATA drive. HP may have a driver or an updated driver that will fix this

Hi

Thank you for your query

From what you are describing you are missing the SATA controller

Please do the following

1) Go to www.devicedoctor.com and download and install application
2) Once installed load up and click on begin scan
3) Once it has scanned it will probably pick up missing SATA controller and give you the option to download
4) Download the SATA controller and install
5) Reboot PC and the SATA drive should be recognised

Seagate 120 gig HD in Dynex enclosure not recognized by XP system

Ok, you didn't say if the drive had data or not? Anyway, if it is a drive with no data etc, you will first need to Initialize, & Format the drive before use. Is there any way you can connect it up to an "Internal" or "External" SATA port, & "See" if the drive is recognized, then at least you know the drive is OK.. Also try another USB port if available. If you know it is OK, then go to device manager and Uninstall the entire USB layer, reboot, it will re-install the USB again, with default settings, it NOW may be "Seen".

The board a7v8x-la pavilion t430m DOES NOT RECOGNIZE THE DISK SATA

Could be any number of problems.

Assuming you are using Windoze......since you did not leave hat information......the possible problems are:

1) Need a "raid" driver installed.

2) Hard drive is bad or unreadable

3) Your system BIOS needs to be updated.

4) faulty or defective SATA cable

5) Faulty Power supply or faulty power connection.

Take the drive out of the current computer and see if it is recognized by any other computer. If it is recognized, then the drive is good. If it is not recognized, try another SATA cable. If it still isn't recognized, then the problem lies with the hard drive.

If the drive is good, then the problem lies with Windoze or your system bios. You did not mention whether or not it was internal or external, that does make a difference.

Installing a IDE to SATA converter adapter

I have successfully connected a older. 20 GB drive to a computer with a 2. sata connection on the mother board.

Buy trial and error I found that connecting a power cable to the converter and the hard drive was the only way to get the Bios To recognize the drive.
Done sucessfuly with a 40GB drive as well, Set drive to master.

SATA Drive

How large is the drive? Windows XP pre SP2 will not recognize a drive larger than 120G when loading from the cd. You will need to use something like Partition Magic to partition and format the drive into 100G partitions, install the OS (it may not see more than the first partition) and upgrade to SP2 and it will see the entire drive.

Wd800jd sata hard drive not recognized in bios on boot up

Hi, A couple of ideas: 1. There are 3 versions of this motherboard: Dragon Plus, V1.0 & V2.0, perhaps your BIOS needs an update to be able to recognize the new HD. This of course would require flashing; 2. There are two variations of a WD SATA hard drive: Serial ATA amd Serial ATA II; 3. Re Jumper settings: the eight-pin jumper block is only used to enable power management on the drive. There are no master/slave settings since there is only one drive per cable; 4. If you are fresh installing Windows on it, you need to press F6 when asked by the Windows Installer and follow on-screen instructions. Hope this be of some help/idea. Post back how things turn up or should you need further information.
