Question about Frigidaire Freezer FFU1724

1 Answer

FFU1724DW9 Freezer just died out of the blue. We were away for the weekend, and came home to find melting food. Unit is only a few years old. Can I check something on the compressor? Possibly a breaker switch or something internally?

Lost manual and need to defrost

This is likely a manual defrost freezer, which means you have to remove the food, unplug the unit, and let the ice melt on its own. Do not, and i repeat, DO NOT poke the ice away from the walls. I guarantee if you poke the ice away from the wall, you'll poke a hole in the wall, and force yourself to buy a new freezer.

SLOWER IS SAFER. put some boiling water, in the pot, inside the freezer, or use a hair dryer.

Sub-Zero 550 Freezer not cold enough

Start with the simple items first like checking the coils at the back of the freezer for ice. If there is let it melt away by unplugging the unit. Have the unity cleaned at that area whether there is ice or none and the entir fridge including the drains on the freezer. Then start the unit again.

I have a GLFU1467FW upright freezer that is about 1 year old. Since I have had I have noticed that there is a lot of freezer burn on food, to the point where I throw it away. It was set at #4 on the panel,...

Freezer burn is caused by oxidisation of the food contained in the freezer bag that has air in it still. Ensure you remove as much air as possible before freezing food.

Food not totally frozen, icecream melted

if it a frost free freezer then chances are it is a defrost hearter, fan motor or defrost timer
if it is not frost free then it will either be the compressor or a gas leak ( which should be under warranty)

Sadly these old freezers use way too much electricity. You will be better off junking this one and purchasing a good used or brand new one.

My freezer is not cold enough to keep food frozen...

the "e" usually means it has an error. it could be a bad temperature thermistor or a bad control board. the most likely is the board.
i hope you are less then 1 year old as the board can be quite pricey, about 150 bucks.
you could try to unplug the unit for a few minutes and then plug back in and see if the code goes away and returns to the cooling mode.

Not all shelves freezing Alarm on

If this is not a frost free unit. I say replace it. I don't believe in recharging a deep freeze. You can never really trust them again. The food inside is worth more than the freezer. If this is a frost free unit, See if the fan inside is working. This can also be a defrost system proplem such as a timer and well worth fixing.

Top of freezer thawing

Ice build-up in the area of the door could be causing the door gaskets to loose their seal. Shut the unit off and use a hair drier to melt the ice away from the door area. Return the control to run position and see if it makes a difference.

Frost in the freezer

IS IT ICE OR FROST? IF IT IS ICE, THE DOOR MAY HAVE BEEN LEFT CRACKED OPEN.
IF IT IS FROST, IS THIS A FROST FREE FREEZER?
IF YES, IS THE FROST ON THE BACK WALL?
IF YES, THERE IS A DEFROST FAILURE AND YOU WILL NEED TO TROUBLESHOOT THE DEFROST CIRCUIT.
IF THE FROST IS ON THE FOOD OR AROUND THE DOOR OPENING, A SEAL LEAK HAS ALLOWED WARM MOIST AIR INTO THE FREEZER AND CREATED THE FROST. CHECK THE DOOR SEAL FOR A GAP WHEN CLOSED.

Kenmore freezer not cold at all!

We had a Kenmore upright which worked fine but then suddenly was not keeping food frozen. Long story short, do not store anything on top of the freezer unit. It will insulate the coils that run across the top of the unit, and cause your compressor to work harder than it needs to, and eventually overheat and become ineffective. Says nothing about it in the user manual. We learned the hard way by losing food.
