Sounds like explorer has a glitch. Try a system restore to point that you remember it working. If that doesn't get it back in check, try a operating system repair with your recovery disc.

If your Internet Explorer keeps randomly crashing (closing by itself), there may be an add-on or temporary page disrupting the connection. Every time you browse the web, Internet Explorer keeps track of the websites you visit. It keeps these pages, along with cookie trackers, in the "Temporary Browsing History" folder. Some websites cause Internet Explorer to crash.

Open the Internet Explorer browser. Go to "Tools > Delete Browsing History." Hit "Delete All." Check off the box that says "Also delete files and settings stored by add-ons." Hit "OK." Close and reopen the browser. b> Disable Add-Ons b> Go to "Start > Search." Type "Internet Explorer" and hit "Enter." The computer will search for any files with this label. Double-click on the file that says "Internet Explorer (No Add-Ons)." This will allow you to browse in IE without any additional plug-ins or add-ons that might be causing the browser to crash. b> Reset Internet Explorer b> Open the IE browser. Go to "Tools > Internet Options." Hit "Advanced." Click on "Reset" and then hit "Enter." Close and reopen the browser. You might have to many programs trying to or accessing your computer or the internet at the same time or a virus Scroll to bottom toolbar (bottom of screen) right click select task manager applications and processes to see you what's running and ticking over if you see anything you don't need running select end now and you might uninstall that specific program if you or computer does not require it to run and some unnecessary programs that could be jamming up your computer also under processes see what is ticking over in the background again if you see something you don't need to be running select end now and users you will see who is using your computer

Internet explorer does not open

If the internet connection is working but IE doesn't get to a page this generally has to do with either your DNS settings or your IE settings regarding the connection.

Please try this then reply back with the results:

open start menu, then RUN box(XP) or click into the searchbar(Vista)

Type cmd then hit enter, once the command window opens type IPCONFIG /ALL

a fair bit of info will scroll by and you will have to scroll the page up to find it but report back with your IP address, subnet mask, gateway and DNS server addresses and we can continue from there

Internet Explorer can not display this webpage

This is not Internet Explorer's fault, this is a bad network connection. I presume you have wireless because I experience the same issues occasionally when my wireless connection drops out. The only solution to this is either use an ethernet cable from the router to the computer or move the computer/router closer to each other or get a further reaching router. Hope that helps!

IE unable to open web pages

The version of IE does not matter.

Click "START"
Click "RUN"
Enter 'cmd' and press ENTER.
Enter 'ping www.yahoo.com' and press ENTER.
Do you get output like:

Reply from 209.131.36.158: bytes=32 time=81ms TTL=56
Reply from 209.131.36.158: bytes=32 time=37ms TTL=56
Reply from 209.131.36.158: bytes=32 time=44ms TTL=56
Reply from 209.131.36.158: bytes=32 time=61ms TTL=56
Ping statistics for 209.131.36.158:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),

If so, then your Internet connection is working fine.
If not, then you have no Internet connection.

Good afternoon Laveda,

I have two fixes for you to try,

1. Right click the wireless icon in your task tray (bottom right of the screen). Select REPAIR from the pop up list. The wizard will run through it and you will hit finish or close at the end. Try Internet Explorer.

If that doesn't work...

2. Open Internet Explorer. From the File menu, Select Tools. Select Internet Options from the bottom of the drop down list. Select the Connections tab across the top. Click the LAN Settings button torwards the bottom. Make sure that "Automatically Detect Settings" is checked and nothing else. Close Internet Explorer, reopen Voila.

I hope this helps you out. Have a good day.

Still Having Trouble with Wireless Network

Hi ther Jeff!

Let's check the IP address of the laptop. You said that it is connected to the wireless network "linksys". Go back to Control Panel>Network connections. Right click on wireless network connection then click Status. Then, click on Support tab and tell me the IP address you have in there. Click details to get the DNS server addresses.

Let me know these information. You are right, there could be proxy servers enabled in the browser that's preventing you to open a website. What version of IE are you using?

On your IE browser, click TOOLS>INTERNET OPTIONS>CONNECTIONS. From Connections tab, click on LAN Settings. Make sure that there is nothing enabled or check on that window. Then click ok.

Go to Security tab. Then click Custom Level. Look for the option "Reset Custom Settings to" which you will find somewhere at the bottom of the page. Set the custom settings to medium-low. If there is no option for medium-low, then select the lowest option. Click ok all the way out and try launching IE again.

Do a ping also to a certain website and tell me if you'll be able to get responses from that site. Open up command prompt. START>RUN>CMD. Then on the cursor, type ping yahoo.com then press enter. Take note of the ping statistics.

If you have Internet Security firewall enabled in the laptop, turn it off. It can cause a conflict with your router's built in firewall.

Please update me about this incident.
