Question about Kenmore HE2 Plus Front Load Washer

2 Answers

I have a Kenmore HE2 Plus front-loading washer Model 110. I got an F-01 error code (CCU error). After running the various diagnostics, I got a "Clean Washer" indication, which means Door lock actuator needs to be checked. I've unplugged the washer, checked the CCU connections, rerun diagnostics, and the problem remains. The only way to open the door is through the manual unlock. How do I know whether I need a new CCU or a new door lock assembly?

I tried the Hard Reset, but I never saw "PF" in the display.

I checked the air pressure hose -- all clear. Now, after plugging in washer, I get error codes of F-22 and F-26. After running diagnostics, I get an error code history of F-22, F-26, F-01, F-01, F-01. And then I get a "Clean Washer" indication, which means Door lock actuator needs to be checked. Again (as I first asked above) how do I know if this is a CCU problem or a door lock assembly problem.

Let's focus first on error codes F22 and F26. Error code F22 is door lock fault and it flashes when the door lock fails to activate after 6 attempts while F26 flashes when the door switch is opened for more than 5 seconds while the door is locked or when the door is not opened after 3 consecutive cycles. Since you cannot do 3 consecutive cycles without opening the door, this may indicate that the door switch contacts are welded together. But both error codes may also indicate a malfunctioning CCU or any other component such as the motor controller unit (MCU).

Disconnect power then start troubleshooting the machine by disconnecting the MCU wire harnesses (MI3 and MS2) from the CCU then reconnect power and start the machine. If error codes F22 and F26 go away, then the MCU must be the culprit, replace it. If the error codes do not go away, disconnect power then test the continuity of the terminals of door switch harness DS2 both with the door open and close. It must have continuity, if the door lock and switch assembly is good, when the door is close and none when the door is open. Also test the continuity between the terminals of connector DS2 on the CCU and it should read open.

Proceed with the troubleshooting of the door lock switch and solenoids if the door switch contact is open when the door is open and close when the door is close. Disconnect power then disconnect the door lock switch harness from connector DLS2 on the CCU. Jump a wire between the terminals of DLS2 on the CCU then close the door firmly. Reconnect power then start the machine.

Post back the result of the tests and your observations about the behavior of the machine as you do the tests. It will help determine which part is causing the problem.

Hi,

F01 - There may be an internal problem with the control, attempt a Hard Reset.

Hard Reset - In some cases the control can be non-functioning or may not accept activation from the control panel. To clear and restart the control follow the these steps:

* Unplug or turn the circuit breaker off for 30 seconds.
* Reconnect the unit to the power source by turning the breaker back on or plugging the unit back into the wall outlet.
* Press the Pause/Cancel/Stop button twice to clear the "PF" in the display.
* Start a short cycle to check the operation of the machine by selecting a cycle and pressing and holding the start button until the machine starts.

There are four areas of concern that can cause the F1 Error Code. Each area must be sequentially addressed to ensure
that the diagnosis is correct and the proper repair is completed.
A) Air leaks in the air pressure (switch/sensor) hose.
a. Inspect the hose for cracks, pin-holes or loose connection.
b. Replace the hose and harness assembly (W10058730) if it is compromised.
B) Moisture in the air pressure (switch/sensor) hose.
a. Inspect the hose for evidence of water.
b. Replace the hose and harness assembly (W10058730) if water is detected.
C) Lint or flashing in the air dome hose connection port.
a. Inspect the air dome hose connection port for lint or flashing.
b. Use a small round device (small screwdriver) to ensure that there is nothing blocking the air dome outlet on
the tub.
D) The control needs to be replaced.
a. Replace the control only after you have completed steps A - C above, and verified that there are no issues
with the air pressure system.

The F01 generally indicates a failed electronic machine control board.
This error code can sometimes be caused by a glitch or power surge through the electrical lines.
You may be able to clear this code by unplugging the washer for 5 minutes.
If the code returns after plugging the washer back in, then the electronic machine control board will need to be replaced.

To Access/replace the CCU...

#1 Unplug the Whirlpool Cabrio power cord from the wall outlet. Turn off the water supply to the washing machine. Pull the washer away from the wall so that you can access the screws behind the control console. Remove the hex head screws securing the control console to the washer with a nut driver. The screws are on the lower rear edge of the control console.

#2 Lift the control console up, and rotate the console forward so that the face of the console is resting on the top of the washer. Locate the interface board cable connector to the right of the plastic tube on the back of the console. Pull the end of the connector straight out of the control console. The primary machine control is the box that the plastic tube connects.

#3 Place small pieces of masking tape around the nine wires connecting to the primary machine console. Label the wire locations onto the masking tape with a pencil. Grasp each wire at the connector with your fingers, and pull the wires away from the primary control. Pull the plastic tube out of the primary control.

#4 Locate the nut toward the bottom of the primary control. Remove the nut with a nut driver. Lift the front of the primary control slightly, and slide it down to disengage the retaining clips. Pull the primary control out of the control console. Insert the new primary control into the control console. Slide the primary control up to engage the lower clips. Secure the primary control to the console with the single hex head screw.

#5 Push each of the wire connectors into their respective positions on the primary control until they lock into place. Push the plastic tube hose over the port on the right side of the primary control. Remove the small pieces of masking tape from the wires.

#6 Position the control console back upright on the top of the washer. Secure the control console to the washer with the three hex head retaining screws. Slide the washer back against the wall. Turn on the water supply and plug the washer into the wall outlet.

F12 error code

Also here is a list of He2 error codes http://www.applianceblog.com/mainforums/sears-kenmore/10283-he2-error-codes.html
I think the error code you are actually getting maybe an F21 due to there is no listing for F12. use this kink to put the unit into diagnostics and run the diagnostic menu which will give you your exact error code as well. I await your reply
Thank you

He2 plus front load washer keeps showing f21 error code i cleared the drain pump filter and it still displays the error code f21 how do i check to see if the pump is not working

Hi

CCU/Touchpad/LED assembly error (f21)
This error occurs if the touchpad/DED assembly is not able to transmit/receive data to/from the central control unit (CCU)
1. Check the touchpad/LED assembly by selecting different cycles and changing the modifiers and options available to confirm the touchpad/LED is responding 2. Unplug washer or disconnect power for five minutes. This will reset the CCU, and may reactivate the communication if the damage isn't severing. 3. Check Wire Harness connectors to the touchpad/LED assembly and Central Control Unit (CCU).

Please get back to us if you have further query else please accept the suggestion.

I have a F-01 fault code on my Kenmore HE2plus front load washer. model # 11047512601. Sears talked me thru the software resets and still had the F-01 error. do I need to replace the Main Control Unit?

Hi,

The F01 fault code is indicating an EEPROM error or a PUMP DRIVER error. A communication error between the Central Control Unit (CCU) and the EEPROM on board the CCU occurred.

Possible causes of an EEPROM error:
A power glitch may have caused this error. Unplug the power cord for 3 minutes then reconnect power.

Possible causes of PUMP DRIVER error:
The pump driver fails to activate. Replace the the CCU board.
Most likely the CCU board will need to be replaced.

Thank you !!

Error code F-28

It may be that the drain pump is not the problem at all. Error Code F-28 on the Kenmore HE2 means that there is a signal error between the Central Control Unit (CCU) and the Motor Control Unit (MCU)
