I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that the notebook in question doesn't have a DVD drive. After looking at driver for that model, it appears it's only a CD capable machine. Please correct me if i'm wrong.
Look at the drive, are there any markings on it, i.e. a "DVD-ROM" or a "DVD" logo? How about a "CD-R" or CD-R/W" logo? If it does not have any type of DVD logo, then it's not DVD capable.
It could be your CD-RW software trying to write to the music CD check the settings in the CD-Drive proprieties. If you have to you can uninstall and reinstall the software. Before you replace the drive you might try some over the counter
remedy's buy some compressed air/gas and a laser lens cleaner CD.you could also buy a CD cleaner for the CD's you are using. Please rate me mysleuth
It's likely a laser alignment problem inwhich you will need to replace the hardware. However, I had a similar problem once with a notebook and found out that a tiny bread crumb was near the spindal making the cd in the drive off balance. Check liberally for any debris. Good luck!
It seems that what you have is a combo drive only :( it only recognize DVD reading. no matter what driver you used. need to buy a dvd writer/ that said can write dvd.

It sounds like you need to replace the DVD Rom itself.
They do go bad without warning.
A DVD Rom is not that expensive and should take about 5 min to replace rather easy job.
