the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).

My FUJITSU SIEMENS AMILO PA 1538 screen comes black ? HELP

Try connecting the laptop to an external monitor and see if all is working Ok with that, if it is, then you may need to get the laptop display serviced - if it does the same on the external display, then try booting the laptop from a CD or DVD such as an OS install CD (Windows or Linux) or a boot utility CD such as Hiren's Boot CD - this will allow you to test whether the problem lays with your installed operating system or with the hardware. . . .
Note: do not go any further than the initial displays if using an OS install CD unless you are using a Linux Live boot CD which will not destroy your installed operating system. . . .See http://www.hirensbootcd.org/ to download a copy of Hiren's Boot CD to burn to a CD. . . .See http://www.ubuntu.com/download/ubuntu/download to download a copy of a Ubuntu (Linux) Live CD.

How can we have a free OS for my laptop.

Hi,
There are a large number of OSes which are available for free on the internet . Most of them are linux based , with each having a slightly different interface and a different method to install programs (also referred to as package management) . They are popularly referred to as linux distros. Depending on how old your laptop is, and you requirements, you can choose an appropriate distro . For laptops which have been bought within 3-4 years , UBUNTU (http://www.ubuntu.com/) is a good choice . For new linux users LinuxMint (http://www.linuxmint.com/) is a good option with lots of settings and applications preconfigured . In case it is a old machine and will be mainly used for internet surfing and web based applications then a netbook OS like Joli OS http://www.jolicloud.com/download is a good option. These OS offer fast boot times and good web compatibility .
To install any these , you can go to the website and download the OS and burn it to a CD/DVD . Some of these OS can be directly installed without the need to burn a CD . You can also try out these OS without installing . This is called Live-Boot .
I hope this answers your question .

I can not get the mouse to work. Please explain why and where can I download a operating system disk for my Toshiba Satellite 3005-S303 for free?

Hi Midnight,

Sorry to hear you mouse is not working.  Upgrading to a new operating system will only fix the mouse if the problem is software based.  If the mouse itself is broken a new OS will not help.

If you do want to upgrade to a new (free) OS then I would suggest Linux Mint 10.  If you have used Windows in the past you should have no problems learning the new OS. I have installed Mint 10 on several machine with no problems what so ever, it just works.  You will have to download the ISO and burn it as an image to a CD or DVD.  This will create what is call a Live CD or Live DVD.  Once you have the Live CD or DVD, boot off the CD or DVD player.  This will make no changes what so ever to your system.  It will allow you to play with Mint 10 and to insure that you system is indeed compatible. If you like what you see you have the option of installing it next to the OS you already have or as the only OS on the HDD.  You can find Mint 10 here:

http://www.linuxmint.com/download.php

Hope this helps you,

How can i install Linux OS on my laptop? please help

do you want to have Linux while you are also having Windows? Then is will be a dual boot. To do this, have another partition of your hard disk empty. Like C (windows) and Drive E(free partition).
Download the latest version of ubuntu linux and use the bootable cd to install ubuntu on the other partition

Cannot log on

If you don't know the username OR passwords to get on the corporate laptop, download a software called Ophtcrack (sp?).  It will give you all logon passwords and usernames for the laptop.

Also another possibility is to load one of the graphical Linux OS's available on the market.  Load the new OS on a cd, they press F12 to enter into the boot device menu, and select CD drive.  You might want to try Umbuntu (Windows-like Linux OS)

Good luck!

Dell Inspiron 1300 trouble when burning Audio CD

Hi!

try this:

right click on "my computer"
Properties
Hardware tab
Device Manager button
click the + or plus sign on CD/DVD/CDRW drive
right click on your cd drive
click uninstall
click the + sign on IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers
right click on each option
and uninstall all of them

*if you have not uninstalled everything, do not click on "YES" for restarting the pc. make sure you uninstall everything first then restart it.

*after the restart, just wait for all the devices to install by itself and wait for the message for another restart then restart the pc again.

after that, if the issue is still not resolved, the you need to find a firmware for the cd drive then if updating the firmware doesn't works, then I suggest to replace the optical drive or if the system still has warranty, call Dell Tech Support for replacement drive.

Hope this helps!

:)
