Reset left margin

I have a typewriter that somehow got the margin screwed up. when you hit the return button it doesn't go all the way to the left, it only goes part way.
How can i reset the type writer so it goes all the way to the left when i hit return? I tried turning off the unit and turning it back on but it never changed the margin. Please help
Thank you

Turn machine ON and return to what is set as the left margin. then press the MAR REL key (upper left side) one time and then press the BACKSPACE the number of times to get where you want to set the left margin.
Once you are at the desired position for the LEFT MAR then press LEFT MAR ONE time and it should be set OK.
Hope this solves your problem, sneaky pete

Change left margin on IBM wheelwriter 2000

To change the left margin, hit the return button which will take you to the left margin. Hit the margin release lever (mar rel) and then the backspace button to go farther to the left and stop where you want the margin to be. Hit left margin and that is where it will then be set.

When I hit the return button, it drops down a line, but returns to the middle of the page somewhere rather then the left margin. I have cleared all margins and started over, but the only way to go back to...

Put a shot of WD40 on both sides of the silver shaft that the carrier slides on, if that doesn't doit you will have to get some on the carrier motor bearings. It is located in the R. rear corner under the case.
The front one can be reached from inside the machine, the rear one you will have to remove the case or fish the straw thru the case.

I have an Olevetti Valentine typewriter in great shape but the paper holder slide( whatever it's called) won't return to the complete left. I want to put it on eBay but would like it to work properly...

If you are talking about the carraige, the part of the machine that goes back and forth while you are typing and holds the paper, it is probably stopping at the left margin. Try resetting the left margin or hit the MAR REL (margin release) button and see if it goes all the way to the left.

How do you clear a tab someone preset. when I get to the far right of page and hit return it will on return to a tab. How do I clear all the preset margins or tabs.?? thanks

To clear margins, you have to hit the return button to find the left margin, then hit margin release and back space to move the margin left or spacebar to move to the right, then hit left margin button to set the new position. Right margin now. Hold spacebar down and find right margin position, hit margin rease and either spacebar to the right or backspace to the left to the new margin position then hit right margin button to set the new position. Tabs now. hit the tab key, when it goes to the first set tab, hit the tab clear key, then hit the tab key again, then tab clear again etc.

Can't get the left margin to change, it is stuck way over on the right side and when I hit return it goes to about the center of the typewriter

Hi,
On carriage return the machine locates LH margin. In your case the LH margin is set in centre.
Press the margin release key when at the margin location position.
Use the backspace key to return to the extreme left.
Space forward to were you want the new margin.
Press Margin Left set.

Resetting the margins on a manual typewriter.

I can't be for sure if these are auto set margins, but it sounds like they might be. If they are, first move the carriage as far to the right as you can. Hold the Left Margin Set (not Margin Release) lever as you move the carriage all the way to the left. Release the Margin Set Button or Lever. Now hold the Right Margin Set Button or Lever (not the Margin Release), and move the carriage all the way to the right while holding the Margin Set. Once the carriage is all the way to the right, release the Margin Set. Move the carriage to the place you want to set your left margin. Hit the Left Margin Set and then release. Move the carriage to where you want to set the right margin. Hit the Right Margin Set and release it. It gets confusing, but Margin Release does not set margins. Its sole purpose is only to bypass the margins. Hope this helps.

IBM Wheelwriter 5 (Setting the Margin back to 5"

Sounds like you don't know how to set l. margin or you have some debris in the typewriter. Turn it off and see if the carrier will move back and forth by hand, if so turn it on 7 return to l. margin press mar rel key, backspace to where you want the margin and press l. margin key.

hope this helps

Return sticks

Try putting a few drops of light oil on the shaft that the carrier rides on and the pulleys that the cables are on (WD40 works well) also look for debris under the carrier.
