Question about Hitachi UX21511 Projector Lamp for 50V500

Open Question

50v500 1.Can you test continuity of a projection lamp? 2. what could be damaged on this tv by shutting it off and then unplugging it right away? I tried replacing the lamp and th only thing that happens is "power lamp and temp leds flash but not at the same time. 3. Are there any reset buttons that need to be pressed when a lamp is changed? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Eric Ooten eric_ooten@starkey.com

Sounds like the lamp has gone or the filter needs cleaning.

There is no reset button for the lamp. My first resolution would be to unplug the TV, pull the lamp and try to reseat it. Sometimes the contacts are not perfect. Make sure that all panels and doors are closed as many units have a switch that must be activated with a pin on the panel and/or door. This would also keep the lamp from striking.
Also, some units have a default reset and that is done by pressing and holding the on/off button as you plug the power cord back in. Follow up with results.

How do I change my projector lamp?

Instructions
  1. Front Projector
    • 1 Disconnect the power cable from your projector. Allow it to cool for 30 to 60 minutes. Lay the projector upside down on a table.
    • 2 Remove the lamp cover, typically located on one of the rear corners of the projector's underside. Depending on your projector, you will either have to loosen a few Phillips screws or press on one or two plastic release tabs to remove the lamp cover.
    • 3 Loosen the screws holding the lamp assembly in place. Grab the assembly by the handle and slide it out of the projector.
    • 4 Slide a new lamp assembly into the projector. Don't touch the glass on the bulb because it will damage the bulb. Tighten the retaining screws on the lamp assembly and replace the lamp cover.
    • 5 Turn the projector right side up and reconnect the power cable. Power on your projector.
    Rear Projector
    • 6 Unplug the TV from the outlet. Let it cool for 30 to 60 minutes.
    • 7 Remove the lamp cover. On most rear projection TVs, the lamp cover is located on the right or left side of the TV's rear panel. Remove the cover by loosening the screws and pulling the cover away from the TV. Certain manufacturers, like Mitsubishi, have the lamp cover in the front of the TV, near the left speaker. To get to the cover, you must first use your fingers to pry off the front panel below the screen, revealing the speakers and lamp cover. Loosen the screws on the cover and pull it away from the TV.
    • 8 Remove the lamp assembly. Loosen its screws, grab the handle and slide it out of the TV. If you have a newer Sony model, there are no screws. Instead, press the release tab to unlock the lamp assembly and slide it out of the TV.
    • 9 Slide a new lamp assembly into the TV. Don't touch the glass on the assembly, as the oils in your fingers will damage the bulb. Tighten the screws or pop the retaining tab into place.

Replace the lamp cover and front panel, if necessary. Plug your TV back into the electrical outlet and power it on.

Tips & Warnings
  • Touching the lamp assembly before it has cooled can cause a nasty burn.

I have a sony kds60a3000 projectin tv. when i turn the tv on there is a message that says "your projection lamp is nearing the end of it's life." Should I order a new one now? how long do you think it...

You should order a new one and wait for the other one to **** out first. The automatic message is to make Sony more money.
Shop around on the web for the lamp.
Some places are 2-3X more than others

Continuity test for a projector lamp?

2. Projector lamps CANNOT be tested with an AMP or OHM meter. Projector lamps function by igniting ultra-high pressurized mercury vapor accross an ARC tube. At the point where the mercury vapor resides there is no conductive electrical material and therefore testing a projector lamp with an AMP or OHM will not work.
