if its freezing while reading, it maybe your rsx chip is beginning to spread apart from your motherboard.. how old is your unit.. first try cleaning your lens before purchasing one.. if you have to purchase a lens check ebay against CECH model(CECH-2501A, CECH-K01) then see what the return policy is.. NO RETURN, 3 DAYS, 10 DAYS.. if that lens doesnt work for you return it quickly, chances are your lens is still good.. then you will have to look into the heat gun 4 penny trick.. if its under warranty($150).. out of warranty the cost to fix is roughly $50.. if you dont have the tools already around.. home depot- has a heat gun in the paint department for $22..radio shack- ceramic thermo paste $8 or artic silver thermo paste $12.. radio shack- home depot- percision screw kit $12and last but not least $.04 from your change and an hour of your time.. find a you tube video to help you disassemble your unit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BhagHRSTd5I&feature=related i copy this guy, movement for movement.. each time i fix freezing/ ylod/ rlod/ glod/ black screen units.. i use a painters Wagner yellow heat gun unit on high.. http://www.ps3iso.com/ps3-tutorials/77803-play-station-3-green-light.html spreading thermo paste- should be a little thicker than a sheet of paper covering entire video chip and cpu chip.. place the four pennies touching side by side forming a square in center of the video/RSX chip only.. i dab thermo paste in the center of pennies, dont bother spreading.. MY KIT: Power drill for case only/ unscrew only.. empty ceramic package is perfect for a screw container.. piece of wood i drilled a hole thru wood for the power prongs to fit thru from motherboard.. wood is to protect other surfaces from heat.. $8 ceramic2 from radio shack..
The towel trick and penny heat sink is a temporary fix for the Xbox 360. The red rings of death is a general hardware failure which means it needs a permanent fix. If your console is out of warranty it will be $99 through Microsoft, you check your local service centers for the system to be fixed and it might be cheaper.
Yeah you should have sent it to Microsoft! They would have fixed your problem for free under warranty! It has a 3 year one ya know? Yeah you had to wait a month but it would have been fixed, Now that the seal has been broken you may not be covered if this is a 2006 model. It would not be if its a 2005. They can tell by model or sn on the back. Good luck dog.
Either your AV cable is not plugged in and it will be flashing 4 red lights. Or you have the infamous Red rings of death, in which case you could send it to mircosoft to fix it. It might be free, depends if your still under warranty, or you could try some at home remedies such as the "towel trick" or the "penny trick" which you could look up on youtube. However doing these things gives you the possibility of messing up your xbox even more and voiding your warranty. You could go to a Play N Trade and try to get them to fix it. Be aware this will probability void your warranty too. Or you could send it to mircosoft and wait 3 weeks to get a new one.
You can keep using step two FOR 074 ERROR or use the step below at your own RISK!
3.Here is another way to fix 074 if it reoccures
(Never tried because of the x clamps i'm to scared of wrecking the 360 motherboard but i bet it fixes the 360 074 by taking the heatsink off and putting it back on)

penny trick is when u tape 3 pennies together and put them on bottom of memorychips on the mother board total of twelve pennies for four memory chips on bottom this is done to fix the 3 red lights just a temp fix but i would recommend doing the x-clamp replacement better success
