Whirlpool Thin Twin Lid Switch and Return Pump access

Thank you for your recommendation concerning access. On my model (LT7000XTNO) the console is located above the dryer and not the washer.

How do I gain access to the lid switch and return pump when the console is not above the washer?

Where the washer and dryer attach just above washer lid there should be screws to rmove cover between units yours may have clips instead of screws that need to be removed to remove lid and top on rear edge of top there is a plug that hooks lid switch just watch when reinstalling top to be sure it reconnects..sorry for mix up those units had 2 different layouts over the years and without an image hard to tell which one you had

My Kenmore washer will fill with water and oscilate, then nothingf won't spin or drain. I 'm guessing that it is the lid switch , ( relay switch ) ?? Mod # 110.94518201 serial # VLG 1601709 can this...

This assumes that you have a basic Kenmore / Whirlpool top load, direct drive, neutral drain (it doesn't spin until the pump removes most of the water) machine.

First, see the Sears parts site for your washer:

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Kenmore-Parts/Washer-Parts/Model-11094518201/0582/0153200?pathTaken=

and you'll see a list of major sub-components with diagrams and parts.

Look at the diagrams for the cabinet and you'll see a list of component parts (Lid Switch) with the Sears part numbers (the manufacturer authorized substitute numbers are Whirlpool) and the Sears price.

Newer model Whirlpool / Kenmore washers use a Lid Switch as a safety device. Unless the switch senses that the lid on the washer is closed, the washer will neither agitate nor spin.

Older models only used the switch during the spin cycle.

Try to bypass the Lid Switch by removing the Console and jumping the two outermost pins on the switch.

To bypass the switch, you only have to disconnect the power to the washer, tilt the console back, unplug the switch and using an short piece of insulated wire, jump the two outermost contacts on the connector coming from the console and plug the washer back in.

Following is a description of how to gain access to the console and how to remove the cabinet if necessary.

http://www.american-appliance.com/catalog/newsdesk_info.php?newsPath=16&newsdesk_id=131&osCsid=913ba652cd504fb162f87d892bcb427b

With the jumper in place, try to re-start the washer.

If it works, the Lid Switch is a relatively inexpensive part and only requires you to access the console and remove the cabinet.

I have a Kenmore 70 Series that is not draining the water or spinning. It is a top load. Model # 22722. Do you know what is wrong and can it be fixed? Cost to fix?

A complete Lid Switch (See the diagram of the cabinet on the Sears site) is about $36.92.

Although I CANNOT recommend it, if cost is a real problem, you could likely leave the jumpers in place.

Whirlpool thin twin problem

First be sure you're getting power to the motor this could cause both problems. If getting power then
sounds like you have 2 problems.
Dryer
On the heating problem be sure you have 220 volts at the power block, check the heating element , thermostats & high temp cutoff with an ohmmeter. Also check the centrifical switch on the motor it keeps the heat off for safety till the motor is up to speed so the fan is working.
Washer
Check lid switch some machines won't do anything but fill with the lid open . To check lid switch push the the switch down with a small screwdriver. If switch is ok check the coupler between the motor & transmission it can cause no agitate or spin. If all these are ok you may have a transmission problem. Last resort may be timer or wireing.
