Router is not going to work as repeater it will work as an access point but you still have to run a cat 5 cable from your internet source to router. You are better of getting an actual repeater.

What is the range in sft of netgear wireless router WGR 614. does it work between 2 floors (ie ground and first floor)

WGR 614 has a range of 300ft radius. Most Wireless-G routers have about the same range. However, the actual range in real-time environment is much less. I think that your network would work fine between twi floors if you place the router at a suitable location i.e. at the central location/ height. Also, based on my on-site experience, I suggest that you may relocate the router to another location depending upon your network environment. It has always helped me a great deal. Placing the router avoiding obstacles such as concrete pillars, walls, steel cabinets etc in the signal path have remarkable effect on range and overall performance of the network.

HOPE IT HELPS...Let me know if you need any further clarification/ assistance.
Don't forget to rate the solution if I could have been of any help!
Goodluck!

I need to increase the range of my wifi signal to cover my small motel. I have a westell 7500, what router would I need to purchase to add to thisto make the signal reach further? I called Verizon and...

Verizon can only support from the telephone-pole across the telephone-wire to your DSL-modem; any "customer-provided-equipment" is not their problem.

LINKSYS (now CISCO) is the "market-leader" in the wireless-router business. Look at their "Wireless N" routers, and look for "extended range". It should be well under $100.

Troulbleshoot Dl-614+

hi ,
hey underwent the problem and i think there is no concern of the indicator lights they may be flashing or they may be solid as well . but the only thing that u should take care of is the powerlight it should not be blinking .
well if the wireless keeps on disconnecting at a regular period of time ....CHANGE THE BEACON LEVEL FROM 100 to 70(beacon means the signals propating time of the router )...
if it still doesn't work then u can surely call the customer care of ur routers company and they will provide u with the replacement of this router ....

You need to do some reconfiguration on your router by using the setup cd or by manually configuring it using the user interface of the router.

This 10dBi omni directional antenna enables you to very easily extend the range of your wireless network. By linking the Omni Antenna to your wireless router, you gain the benefits of an optimum wireless signal while minimising the number of ‘dead spots’ (points in your home where the signal is either weak or lost).
However it does not fit the following types of routers, modems and accespoints:
WL-143
WL-122v2
WL-114/WL-517
WL-114v2
WL-108/WL109
WL-111
WL-106
WL-025
WL-018v2
These antenne's will also fit other brands of wireless products that use an SMA connector

DI-524 wireless router as wireless switch

You need to disable the DHCP server on your "slave" wireless router ( the di-524 ). In D-link routers this might be called configuring it to be an "Access point".

When this happens, connecting to the second wireless router should cause your computer to obtain an IP address which is in the range of the first router (that is to say, it will use the first router's dhcp server).

You should be able have your laptop connect with an automatic IP address and have it work.

DI-614+ power on problem

Have you left enough space around your DI-614 to discipate the heat? Maybe it is overheating.

Also, the problem may be with the power supply and not the DI-614 itself. D-Links tends to use the same type of power supply across many models. If you (or a friend of yours) have another DLink device, you may trying using its power supply. Before doing that, make sure that the power supply of your DI-614 and the other one have the same rating. The rating is indicated on a sticker on each power supply.

By the way, opening the cover will void your warranty, if the device is still covered.

Dl 614 , wireless connection problems

Hi, On a similar model, the advertised range is anywhere from 50-100 meters outdoor or open air. Inside the house or within the office, the walls, doors, drapes, furnitures etc obstruct the signal and brings down the range to less than half. What we have tried to improve the signal range: 1. Install the AP/Router high up not just on top of a closet or cabinet but really high, about a foot from the ceiling; 2. Approximate the very center of the various locations of the laptops and install the AP/Router there; 3. Disabled and did not use security WEP, WPA but turn MAC Filter on; 4. Use an external hi-gain omni antenna; 5. Install a second similar unit at the farthest coverage and run it as a repeater; 6. Replace the AP/Router with the new N type (which again claimed to be 4X wider and 12X faster) which made us go back to step 1. It's a love/hate experience and we ended installing more repeaters. But it works. Hope this give you an idea or two (but hopefully not the frustration nor the headache). Post back how things worked out your end. Cheers

Worked fine for a year, suddenly it's busted

I came across the same trouble after several hours power out of the router (has to move DL-524 from room shelf to closet). In my case it lost WiFi security configuration (was no encryption and must be WPA/PSK). I set WPA back, 64-byte PSK key was not corrupted, and Dl begun to run smoothly again. After that I got an experiment and powered off Dl for a night, WiFi security settings was lost again. My be it's a feature of the device, may be I'm (we are) not so lucky :). Try to check "Wireless setup" - hope it'll be helpfull...
