You can only use refillable once and sometimes not at all. The gasket on the cartridge has to fit snug or the printer won't recognize that you have put one in. Buy a new cartridge and that should fix the problem. I had the same problem.

How can I make printer recognize refilled cartridge on lexmark prevail pro 705

Refilled cartridges will not reset the ink levels. The printer will still recognize it as empty.

Please be advised that refilled/remanufactured cartridges could damage your printhead and will not be covered under warranty.

Smash printer with axe or sledgehammer. Grin maniacally. After researching on internet,go out & buy new printer that allows you to print till empty & refill again! Obviously not a Lexmark...

Is it the original Hp catridge or you refilled it..???? you've replaced the black... so no problem with black.... color catridge would have dried... so remove th color catridge and wipe thi lower part gently with a wet cloth....!!!

My printer says i am out of ink (colored) is there anyway to overide this as i only need black ink

No, sorry but I am not aware of any such bypass solution.
What you can do is get the ink cartridge refilled by a local vendor, that will cost you less and as you said that you will be using mostly the black so quality does not matter in that case.

If you feel that, my answers have helped you getting solution to your problems then please give a vote.

Thanks.

Printer cartridge is a refill and does not seem to be recognized

Maybe you can try to reset the black ink level 1st. To reset the ink level:
1) Goto the Lexmark Solution Center application.
2) Press button Maintenance>Install a new print cartridge, follow the instruction on screen. U may then have your new full ink level. Note: u only can reset to full level, cannot customize the level by your own.
Hope this help.

Lexmark x3430 low ink warning

when you installed the new ink cartridge did you go into your program menu and find the lexmark solution center? If not, you have to go to the solution center, choose the maintenance menu and tell it you have installed the new ink cartridge. If you don't it will not recognize the new one.

How do I reset the ink levels?

We have an issue of missing or replace yellow cartridge. Please feel free to contact the HP support for replacement of the printer, if the printer is in warranty status. HP would replace the printer.

Even if you are out of warentee, HP will cover their cartridges from 2 years from the manufacture date which is listed on the cartridge itself. If you go through more than 2 cartridges that are the same (NOT REFILLED, NOT REMANUFACTURED) then HP will replace it. There is a microchip in the cartridge itself which registers it's been in a printer before and if that has happened and it's remanufactured or refilled It goes "HEY I"VE BEEN USED" and rejects. - It's not the printer, it's probably the cartridge. Remember, that printer is almost 4 years old, things are bound to go wrong with hardware too (dried up ink in system clogging ink paths is common in old printers)

How To Refill?

Harry, you can use every DYE ink for brother printers. DO NOT use pigmented ink due to clogged filters inside the printhead!!!! The carts for mfc210 are filled with 20ml for BK and 11ml for C/Y/M. I use to refill 20ml only ink for bk and 10ml ink + 1ml printhead cleaner for C/Y/M. See here how to do that (LC900 refill): http://www.hstt.net/refill-faq/brother.html#LC-900 Refillen (Simply drill a hole into the brother brandname and leave it open!) I use a 20ml syringe and 3 12(10+2)ml syringes from the drugstore (ask your doc! It may be cheaper ;-)
