The phone number for Techra Software is (866) 377 4140. They do not publish it on either their website or their whois listing, and I had to call them before they would send me the activation password.

1) Try this link: http://www.techrasoft.com/

The make a virtual keyboard program for $20

They claim that you can program any string into any key.

2) Microsoft makes a free device driver for their "Natural Media"
series keyboards, called:

" Intellitype-pro "

This driver allows you to execute windows commands using
programmable hot keys.

( I am not sure if this is what you want to do, though)

3) Optimus Maximus makes a very fancy programmable
keyboard, which has miniature high resolution LCD
displays on every key, so that you can dynamically
create your own symbols for each key, as well as
program the key functions, characters or a custom
strings.

Optimus Maximus Keyboard = $1800
http://www.artlebedev.com/everything/optimus/

OK, this costs more than my car, my garage and my wife,
combined, but it sure is pretty !!! :)

You may want to Google the net for cheaper alternatives,
less the LCD keys, or for key translating device drivers.

Hope this gets you started,
Martin.

Fn+num lk not working

There is no standard meaning to any Fn +Fx key combinations. It depends on the manufacturer and the laptop model.
Usually the Fn key works in combination with the Function (Fn) keys F1-F12, and maybe ESC.

In my Toshiba, there is an overlaid numeric pad that can be activated by pressing Fn +F11. Once the sequence is pressed the F11 key led remains lit, and the overlay active. Pressing the F11 key restores the normal keyboard. Fn+Num Lock does not do anything.
Please check you laptop's manual to familiarize yourself with the uses of the Fn key on YOUR computer.

The functions key don't work in my toshiba

The function keys may be locked.....There may be a sequence of key strokes that will unlock it. In this case the sequence may be .....FN + F11, if that does not work try Fn + Num Lock. Below is the user guide for that model, it is a self installer.

How do i make a character that looks like a 7 but vertical portion is straight

The answer is ALT + 191

To obtain an ALT Character:
  1. Make certain that the Num Lock key has been pressed to activate the numeric key section of the keyboard.
  2. Depress the Alt key.
  3. While the Alt key is depressed, type the proper sequence of numbers (on the numeric keypad) of the ALT code from the table above.
  4. Release the Alt key, and the character will appear
Found here... http://www.tedmontgomery.com/tutorial/altchrc.html

You will find all the special characters there.

Thanks,

I want to get into the setup mode when booting, and the normal F2, F8, or F12 keys don't do anything. I want to boot from a cd....how do I achieve this?

its possible that the Function keys on the top of your keyboard aren't working.

Turn off the computer and disconnect the keyboard from the computer and then plug the keyboard back in.

If the keyboard function keys still aren't working then the keyboard needs to be replaced.

Just for your info, to boot up off the cd you would either go into the BIOS by pressing F10 or F11 on your keyboard and then change the boot sequence so that the CD Rom is the first boot device.

You can also press F12 to go into the boot menu and choose the cd-rom directly from there.

Entering BIOS settings, Easy-Access, after POP, with external KB

The Power On Password problem is near impossible to crack. It is designed to prevent unauthorized access to the Thinkpad and removing the BIOS battery will not remove the password because the password is stored on an EEPROM chip.
There are no backdoor passwords available, the only option is to ask the person who set the password.
OR
There is a way to hack into the Thinkpad to see and remove the password but it requires electronic skills, a program and a working computer.
For details on how to do this go to :-

Change boot sequence for HP L2000

Hi,
You need to enter BIOS at startup. The correct key to press will be displayed at the bottom of the black screen when you bootup. Usually, F10, F8 or F11 or Del. Mash them all on booting up.
Now navigate the Bios settings with the arrow buttons and select cdrom as 1st boot device with the enter button. Then Save and Exit.
