If some key work and some don't ,more than sure your keyboard is broken. I hope you didn't spill liquids or dropped food on it. Check to see if you keyboard doesn't have a stucked key... you won't other solutions online, you must go to a computer service.

  2. If your keyboard does not have a Scroll Lock key, on your computer, got to Start, All Programs, Accessories, Ease of Access, and then click On-Screen Keyboard.

Toshiba Satellite A65-S126 keyboard no longer works

If you have the disk or driver for keyboard then reload it.
If not then use the mouse and click on the Start button, use the mouse's right button on Computer (My Computer). Select Manage. When the Computer Management console appears, Select Device Manager. Expand the Keyboard Section. Right Click on your computer name and select Scan for hardware changes.
If this fails to reload the driver then right click on the keyboard item that says Unknown and select Update Driver Software.

Toshba Laptop L505-55984 CERTAIN KEYS DO NOT WORK UNLESS CAPS LOCK IS ON. THE 4, R,F,V,8,I,K & THE , ALSO THE ENTER KEY ON THE 10-KEY-PAD AND THE DEL KEY ON THE 10-KEY DO NOT WORK NO MATTER WHAT. THIS...

they keyboard is bad for sure, they make them so flimsy that the keys could be off. You can try moving your fingers back and forth on it from left to right in a sweeping motion to see if there are any stuck keys that could be affecting the keys.

If you do this and you have the same problems. Call Toshiba or the store you got the laptop from and get a replacement keyboard. Sounds like to me they used a refurbished keyboard on that laptop even though its new, companies do that form time to time and never tell the customer.

The m and caps lock keys on my Toshiba satellite

Bad keyboard. This series have a higher frequency of keyboard problems because ... well .. the keyboard cable got folded by design. Just replace it. The A40's uses the same keyboard as a A10, A15, A55, A60, A64, 1400, 1405, 1410, 1415, 2400, 2405, 2410, 2415 ... and many others. A new replacement keyboard should run about $20 on eBay.

Replacing the KB is easy: lift up the power button board above the keyboard, remove the three screws holding the keyboard down, then remove the keyboard connector cover panel, and you'll be able to disconnect the keyboard.
