Question about Computers & Internet

My computer froze the other day so I had to unplug it and reboot. When I did this it ran a check disk. It started back up with no problems. Then I left my desk came back and there was an error message so I unplugged it and tried to reboot. When I tried to reboot my computer gave me a boot error message and now I cannot get back past the boot selection screen everytime I try to pick an option it goes back to the same screen. I was able to get to the screen where you can press safe mode, restore to last time computer worked correctly, etc. But now I am not even able to get there.

    My screen says:

Reboot and Select proper Boot Device or Insert Boot Media in Selected Boot Device and press a key.

Mind you I do not have Boot Media,

    Any suggestions.

You could try pressing F8 at boot up and selecting 'use last known good configuration'

Sounds like the harddrive isn't being found. Enter the BIOS (F2, F10 or del) at startup and check it's listed in devices and in the Boot sequence. If that fails open PC up and reseat the cables between drive and board.

Toshiba sattelite c660 restart

Try to access the BIOS screen, as check for the hardware helth and connection status.1) Black screen shows fault in RAM check he slot settings or other RAM.
2) If device shuts down itself in 2 seconds as you said, there might be a fault with the mother board or SMPS circuit which is not at related to any quarantined file by your AV.

Laptop makes a pinging sound when opening and then crashes

your computer cannot boot from the hard drive or cannot read the drive.the drive may be corrupted so zero-fill it.and if you think that your hard disk is in healthy condition then you can try one by changing your battery and observing the screen by pluging the laptop to the wall socket and also you see any difference? if yes then problem with the battery(if seen that the laptop reboots after being plugged).to the best of my knowlege, the hard drive is corrupted.

I receive an advanced dot placement mode error when I try to print

I started receiving this error after a Windows update. After 2 days of the same issue, I realized that I rebooted my computer several times but I hadn't yet turned the printer off and on. I unplugged and plugged it back in again. It ran through a quick reboot and then I was printing fine - no need to change any software settings, roll back drivers. etc.

Manusacture hard drive needs to be rebooted

Hello ecmtruck95,

Unplug the computer and let it sit for a couple minutes. Then plug it back in and turn it on. The computer should do a hard disk check and try to fix any disk problems.

Computer freezes up. Only unplug power cord can I reboot the computer.

  1. Dell suggests upgrading audio drivers and flashing bios.
  2. I did both of these and problem reappeared after a while.
  3. Then I removed heatsink/fan assembly, cleaned all surfaces, applied good quality silver-loaded heatsink compound and reassembled
  4. PC has been running for more than a day with no probs so far

Been frozen for about a week

You have to hit the reset button. You stick the end of a small paperclip or even the wire part from those garbage bag twist-ties into the reset button which is the hole on the bottom of the player. As you push the paperclip into hole you must hold down the PLAY button. This should put it into the Recovery screen or else it will just say "Rebuilding Library". If it goes into the Recovery screen you select CLEANUP and then YES. After it goes through cleanup which can take forever then it will will usually reboot on its own or if it goes back to recovery screen hit REBOOT after you have done CLEANUP.
