Hi, please check the power cable for any sign of damage and make sure that it is connected properly. If issue still present you may need to take that monitor to service center or call your monitor vendor for service.

The flat screen monitor comes on and off

If you mean that the screen comes on then goes black again, then the backlight controller is faulty. This may be due to bad electrolytic capacitors, or the inverter controller board needs to be replaced.

I have a FPD 1830 flat screen monitor not displaying picture

Send the monitor. It's a power supply problem. My 15.4" LCD has the problem, too, whenever I move the monitor down, it powers off, and the menu disappears as well, but I'm going to fix the screen.

Sounds like an inverter problem. If the power supply is internal replace the capacitors coming out of the voltage regulators. These are usually 1000mf and/or 470mf. If that doesn't do the trick look up the numbers on the 8-pin chips that drive the secondary transformers on the inverter to see if they are getting the right voltages.
Good Luck!
