Why does my air conditioner keep freezing up on the element that cools the air conditioner? It frosts up. I turn air condition off and I have to take a hair dryer to melt the frozen up part of the air conditioner. This air conditioner is on it's 6 season of using. Are you able to help?
Mine has done this alot, mostly because I live in a state with ALOT of wind, and in an area with ALOT of dirt. Sounds like your coils are dirty. Try cleaning it out, or having it cleaned out. If you spray it with water just make sure your compressor is facing up and you don't use too much pressure. Hope this helps

Here are some reviews and questions that have already been asked on Fixya. any appliance that is only used for a few months of the year and then rests for months is going to exhibit some problems eventually. Usually just a matter of getting an AC engineer to add some more refrigerant gas.

Hello, some window units do not use a drain tube instead they use the condenser fan blade to scoop the condensate from the bottum of the base pan and splash the condenser coil to keep the condenser cool and also evaporate the condensate. Most of the time you can hear a "swishing sound"
that is a 10000 btu unit and a good rule of thumb to go by when 'sizing' a unit is 12000 btu for every 600 sq ft of cooling space (if the place is well insulated) or 400 sq ft (if not well insulated).
So, you have a 10000 btu unit which is 5/6th of 12000 btu - so - can reasonably expect that unit to cool approximately 500 sq feet.
In other words the room it's in now could be only - say - 300 sq feet (and well insulated) - in which case the AC unit is cooling it - well.
However, if you try to cool a 800 sq ft room - it will not work as well.
Hope this has helped.
Toget proper heat, keep your temp setting at 30+ degree and also mode in "heat"position. If still no heat, check your heating sensor for closed circuit by anOHMs metre. It it's with RV, check power to RV.If it's with heatingelement check power to element. If power is there but still no heat meanselement defective. Replace new heating element. Thanks.

COILS USUALLY FREEZE UP DUE TO INSUFFICIANT AIRFLOW ACROSS THEM. IF THE FILTER IS DIRTY, THEN IT SHOULD BE REPLACED IF IT IS DISPOSABLE, OF CLEANED IF IT IS A PERMANENT ONE. THE ONLY OTHER REASON FOR A FREEZING COIL IS A LOW FREON CHARGE. IF THE UNIT HAS A LEAK, AND IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY, THEN RETURN IT TO THE MANUFACTURER. HOPE THIS HELPS. THANKS FOR AN HONEST RATING AND FOR USING FIX-YA. GOOD LUCK
