Question about Belkin (F5D7230-4) Router (587009)

I am trying to secure my belkin wireless G router

I have tried entering my ip address into the address line, it will not find it. Maybe it's because I have road runner, I don't know, but I did a search, and I got the correct ip address. My computers are secure, but my network is not. I need to secure my network and ensure that my wireless computers can get on.

What is a Wep/wpa? Did it come within the router? I thought there was a way that you could put a password in. I don't have my manuel.

Are you trying to setup wep/wpa for your wireless network?
If so you will need to put in the ip of your wireless router (best to do from a wired computer)

It will then ask for a username / password (most are admin/admin or admin for user with no pass) check your manual to be sure.

Once in you can click on "security" or "Wireless Settings" and set your wep/wpa key. with a G router wpa is strongly recommended.

WEP/WPA is an encryption you can enable on your wireless router to keep others off your wireless network as well as secure communications between users and the wireless side of the router.

A copy of the manual can usually be downloaded from the manufacturers website. Looking at the bottom of the router will give you model number, serial number, and version information you'll need to get the manual.

Each router is a bit different then the next, most come with a cd that will help you setup security. But all of them I have seen so far have web interfaces you can access by typing in the 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 ip address in your address bar.

Most default logins are admin/admin or admin with no password

Connect to the router via a cable.
Open CMD (command) prompt and type:
iconfig
you will see a default gateway listed - write the ip address down.
Open internet explorer and enter the gateway address into the address bar.
Should open a web page to configure the router.
You may have to provide a password.

If you're only interested in wireless password change, select different pages until you get to the wireless stuff.

How to Change Security Settings on Belkin Wireless Router

My belkin N1 router when i plug it in it just flashes the security light and wont connect to the internet

You will need to double-check your security settings. Apparently, the modem is trying to tell you there's a problem regarding this.
The easiest way to be able to access the router settings in this case, will be to provide a direct connection between your PC and the Belkin router (using a network cable) and then type in that address.
If the address still doesn't work, double check the router's IP address by opening the Command Prompt (it's under Programs -> Accessories) and typing in "ipconfig", then hitting Enter. The IP-address you're looking for is listed under "default gateway".

(Also, make sure your computer isn't using a fixed IP, set it up so it's dynamically assigned an address by the Belkin router.)

How do i turn off my security for my belkin wifi?

Open INTERNET EXPLORER and. (In the URL address field), enter the IP address for your wireless router ( the DEFAULT GATEWAY. This information should be contained in your router's manual. If you cannot find it, enter "198.168.1.1" as the address. This is usually the default IP address for most routers.do not type "www" just the number
Enter the username and password for your router. This should also be supplied in the router's manual. If you don't have this information, go to routerpasswords.com and find the brand and model of your router. This site lists the default login information for most wireless routers you can try "ADMIN" for user name and "PASSWORD" for passsword.
You should now be able to see your wireless router settings. You can configure your network ports, as well as SSID (wireless network name) and passwords.

Note, instead of '123.456', note what the actual numbers are.

How do i secure my belkin wireless - i am able to get on the internet but i am wanting to secure my wireless router to stop others from getting through my connection

Connect your router to computer with ethernet cable then you can access it with following default link. http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.15.1 or http://192.168.2.1 If you are not able to access it with above ip then check your computers ip address gateway ip is your router ip try with it. Then it ask for user name and password. Type user as "admin" and password as "admin" or "password" or blank. Then you can see configuration page of router. Then click on wireless settings then Click on wireless security then enable WEP and enter security code note down it then you can connect wifi with that password then save settings and restart router. I reset my belking 54 wireless router and now I want to secure it again because I had forgotten password. Help

You will have to enter the router's control panel and change the security settings. Here's how you do it:

1. Find your router's IP Address.
  • To find the IP address, 1st open Command Prompt (Start>Run>type in: cmd)
  • Next type in: ipconfig
  • After executing the command (by pressing Enter), a list appears. We want the IP Address associated with the "Default Gateway." (Picture).
  • Next open up your Web Browser (Firefox, Internet Explorer, etc...), type in that same IP address, and visit the website (Picture). (NOTE: Do not add www. or .com! Just type in the IP Address.)
2. Visit the router's IP Address and enter the control panel.
3. Find the area pertaining to WEP or Wireless Security.
4. Enable Wireless Security, set a custom passphrase, then check to see if the same passphrase will allow you to connect to the router from a wireless computer.

I've had a belkin router in the past, so I'm going from memory. If you get lost, but are able to post links to screen shots, please do. I'm certain I can assist you if I see the options we're dealing with. However, I'm also convinced the simple explanation I provided above will also resolve your problem.

Let us know how things turn out, or if you require further assistance. Remember, every FixYa expert benefits from your ratings.

Configuration of Belkin Wireless Router F5D6231

    Whoops, found it. http://cache-www.belkin.com/support/dl/f5d6231-4_manual.pdf

If I were setting this up for myself or a customer, I'd keep the Airtel IP's and let it be the DHCP server. To do this, you pick a fixed IP address for the Belkin, something like 192.168.1.251. Log into the Belkin and change the LAN IP address to that and turn off DHCP. Those instructions start on pdf page 34.

Now, plug one of the 4 ports into the Airtel, and from a computer connected to the network type in 192.168.1.251 in Internet Explorer. It should get you to the Belkin where you finish setting it up for wireless security and password from page 38.

You won't use the WAN port.

    Getting secure

maybe your router is not using the 192.168.2.1 ip address anymore. the only way to enable the security is to access the router's page but if you want you can run the installation cd again since it'll ask you if you want to secure your network but you need reinstall everything just like you installed it out of the box.
or you can just check the ip address of your router.

    here are the steps

    - use a hardwired computer and access the command prompt (for windows computers, click on start, then click on run, then type cmd)
    - it'll prompt you now with a black screen, on the blinking cursor, type ipconfig/all
    - take note of the default gateway address that's the ip address being used by your router
    - enter the default gateway's address on address bar of your browser and it shoould prompt you for the username and password, enter the username and password of your router
    - it'll prompt you now with the roouter's page, click on the wireless part and set up your security

    hope this'll help you

    ciao!
