First my printer went kaput and it has fax scan copy print-----then my puter just all of a sudden wont hardly work at all! My name is Lisa I am pretty much a shut in and my puter is my link to life outside the walls. I have tried to do scans they do nothing but one said 11 things were compromised and I thought I fixed it but the puter still slow! I have cleaned my computer all by myself before but lost all my pictures. I dont feel like there is a virus. Can you please help me?
Run spybot - free download. Run Adware SE - Free download.
Get a good virus detect, There are free ones like AVG which are good. but for $30.00 a year get a good one with automatic updates such as etrus, spysweeper. Usually to speed up you computer, defrag, clean out cookies in the internet tools, plus some other items....

This is a case of spyware possibly. Try the things that I am going to tell you. If these things do not work let me know.
Turn the system restore off. System restore keeps everything in restore. Meaning......... If you have spyware or a virus, it will stay in your system. Run Spybot S&D (This program is free and is better than using msconfig as long as you go through the settings and change everything to the highest settings.) Then do the same with Adaware 2008 (sounds stupid to use 2 things for spyware, but one catches what the other one does not.). I have links on my website (tandnfamilyelectronics-online.com). These links go directly to the download so you will not get the run around. You would do good to try a program called Window Washer (http://www.download.com/Free-Internet-Window-Washer/3000-2144_4-10436825.html?cdlPid=10731707). This is a great program that completely cleans anything in your computer that you do not need. It will not clean out anything that you have to have. I have used this for years to clean out my customers computers and have cleaned as much as 3 gigs of trash out. If you contact me I will give you some tools that I have for free that will do a great job on your computer. I have them ready to download and I will give you the link. (firstname.lastname@example.org)
Send me the complete specs of your system and I can help you more. I hope that this helps you. There is no reason the really buy a program for spyware when there are free things to use that work great. Free AVG is a great Antivirus and yes it is also free. It will check your e-mail coming and going. It will also let your friends now that the E-mail does not have a virus. It also has a spyware program that is free. This day and time with all of the spyware out on the net you can never have too many programs for spyware. I would not run all of them at the same time though. Make sure that you do not use your computer during any scan. Defrag is also something to do after you do everything else. Some people will tell you that should not reload your computer. If nothing seems to work then sometimes that is the only good way to get it repaired right. Most of the programs that come pre-installed on a store bought computer is useless and most are even trail software that causes problems when they expire. Let me know if this helps at all. Please rate this as a Fixya if it helps.

Tips for a great answer:
To check to see if your scanner is properly installed, open the Device Stage. Choose Start?Devices and Printers. If Windows doesn't automatically find your scanner, you can manually add it in the Devices and Printers window by clicking the Add a Device button in the toolbar and following the wizard's commands.
Choose Start? All Programs?Windows Fax and Scan.
Windows 7 opens the Windows Fax and Scan window.
Click the Scan button in the Navigation pane, then click the New Scan button on the toolbar.
The New Scan dialog box for your scanner opens.
Use the settings on the right to describe your scan.
By letting the computer know what you're scanning, its color profile, and the type of file you plan to create, you enable Windows Fax and Scan to create the highest quality scan.
Click the Preview button to see what your document will look like.
Make any last minute changes.
If you're happy with the preview, click the Scan button.
Windows scans the document and presents you with an image of your document.
Click the Save As button and complete the necessary information.
Enter the filename, the type of graphics file you want saved, and then click the Save button.
To automatically forward the document you've just scanned as an attachment to a new fax message, click the Forward as Fax button.
The scan feature in the Windows Fax and Scan utility is set primarily to scan text documents. If you want to scan a photograph or other graphic, you're better off doing that directly within the Windows Live Photo Gallery.
