There is a little pinhole button that resets the router to the factory defaults. On some routers it is on the "back" somewhere near the switch ports, on others it is discretely placed on the bottom in a corner, and on others still it is on the front.

thanks, but it still asks for a password

  • Charles Cannaday Nov 02, 2010

It always will, but now the password is set to the factory default. Depending on your model number, the Motorola default usernames and passwords are:

    username: password:
    cablecom router
    admin motorola
    admin password

  • Charles Cannaday Nov 02, 2010

oops, that lost formatting when I hit submit...

these are the default username and password combination possibilities with a motorola router:

    cablecom/router, admin/motorola, admin/password

  • acubeach Nov 03, 2010

Thanks, I'll give those a go.

  • acubeach Nov 03, 2010

ok, got main comp working online but the wireless light on router is not blinking...or lit up

  • Charles Cannaday Nov 03, 2010

So your computer is online but the wireless light on the router isn't flashing or on? Are you connected wireless or wired? That light only flashes when there is data being sent via wireless either to or from the router. If you are online via wireless connection and no light action then perhaps you are on another network or perhaps something is wrong with the light. Check what network you are connected to by checking your SSID in your network settings and make sure it is the same SSID of your own network.

  • acubeach Nov 04, 2010

Wireless router is between cable modem and desk top. Last night I typed in your password and they worked for desktop but no signal for wireless was detected by laptop or Droid. No light lit on router where wireless is labeled.
Today when starting desktop it again wanted password but won't accept any you suggested including the one it did yesterday.

  • Charles Cannaday Nov 04, 2010

So you are using that password to log into your computer? Those passwords are for logging into the web interface of the router so that you can set up the network after pushing the reset button on the router. You should log into your computer as you normally would, open your network settings and search for a wireless network which will have the default SSID of your router, which should be Motorola or something resembling the make and model of your router. Set up the connection with that network and send your browser to 192.168.1.1 and use the username and password combos to figure out which one is the default for your actual router. Then you can set the network up the same way you had it before you had to use the reset button.

To do this, press and hold the Reset button for 10 seconds. NOTE: Resetting your router to its default factory settings will also reset your router's password. The router's default password is "admin" as for the username, just leave the field blank.

Reset password to the router and get a new one

Are you trying to reset the router password or wireless network password?
Wireless network password is different than router access password.
To change the wireless password, you will need to access the router page and change the settings.
See how to find wireless network password
To change the router access password, you can log in to router page and go to administration tab. There you will find the place to change the router password.

Router password can be reset by pressing and holding down for 30 secs (reset is not a button , its a pin hole at the bottom of router )

Yeah hey...belkin wireless router password reset

What is the brand of the router your using? This information will be from the router that you have. Use a wired connection from the router, check your default gateway (ipconfig) and type that numbers in your address bar. You will be able to access your set-up page, look for wireless tab and look for wireless security. You will see there your WEP key.
