It depends on how long you would use it. a motherboards life is between 4-5years. but if you are a heavy gamer, it would only last for about a year or 2 due to over usage.

I bought a new 1GB ram(DD2) when i insert it it nt work bt whenever i insert it with old 512MB ram then its work bt in bios setting only show the 1GB ram

Maybe 1GB is the maximum amount of memory that your system will hold. And maybe your system likes memory to be in pairs, so when you put the 1GB in by itself it didn't work, but when you put it in with a 512MB it works.

Ram compatibilty

Yes you can but the higher spec DDR2/800 RAM will run at at lower speed same as the DDR2/ 667 RAM.
When you install the DDR2/800 RAM and the BIOS only detects 1Gb of RAM then this RAM is not compatible with the 1st RAM module. In this case use RAM module that is the same make and speed as the original RAM module.

That motherboard will use any of these 3 memory sticks.IN PAIRS.if you just put in 2 make sure the go in the same colored slots.
DDR2 PC2-4200
DDR2 PC2-5300
DDR2 PC2-6400
Each slot will take upto a 2gig memory stick.For a max of 8gig.
Use matching pairs.

I have intel dg41rq motherboard with 2 gb kingston 667 mhz in one slot. can i put another 2 gb ram in other slot. if yes then should it have the same specification?

Intel DG41RQ Motherboard has two DDR2 (DIMM) sockets.
It Support DDR2 800 or DDR2 667 MHz DIMMs. Since you already have a 667 MHz RAM, it is recommended that you add another RAM of the same specification (DIMM DDR2 667 MHz)
However, if you add 800 MHz DIMM with 667 MHz, both would perform at 667 MHz. RAMs of different bus speed and latency usually work together but the performance is compromised.
It is always better to have RAM in pairs of same specification.

Hope it helps! Good Luck! Thanks for using Fixya!

You can install a total of 2Gb or 4Gb RAM on this motherboard.
The specifications for the RAM are as follows -
Memory
• Two 240-pin DDR2 SDRAM Dual Inline Memory Module (DIMM) sockets
• Support for DDR2 533 or DDR2 400 MHz DIMMs
• Support for up to 4 GB of system memory

What bus speed memory do i need

I'm taking a guess that it's bus speed is 667 Mhz. This is based on the slowest RAM chips that will work on it, which are DDR2 RAM PC2-5300 240-Pin DIMM. You can however use, DDR2 PC2-8500,DDR2 PC2-6400, or DDR2 PC2-5300 speeds because the faster RAM is backwards compatible. It's best to install RAM chips in matching pairs for your machine.

Can I install DDR3 RAM chips on my laptop?

Sorry to say but that is not possible upgrading the RAM using a different RAM chip will not work, since your MOBO only supports DDR2 of RAM but if you just want to make the computer work faster you go and upgrade the DDR2 RAM up to 4GIG....

Please help

Hi,
The reason you are getting the beeps is because your computer has found Hardware problems. Different amounts and length of beeps mean different things. Laptops are different from Desktops so i cant tell you what it is but its most likely to be the RAM since you tried to change it.

When changing RAM: Not all ram is the same
1. Locate the original Ram. Does it Say DDR1 or DDR2. Make sure you get the same!
2. The Speed of the ram

PC66=66MHz SD Ram
PC133=133MHz SD Ram
PC1600=200MHZ DDR2
PC2100=266MHz DDR2
PC2700=333MHZ DDR2
PC3200=400MHz DDR2
PC3500=533MHz DDR2
PC5300=667Mhz DDR2
PC6400=800MHz DDR2
PC8500=1066MHz DDR2

Make sure both ram have the same specs and try to make it the same as the original stick.
When changing Hardware, be careful of Electro Static Discharge. Touch something metal like your computer case or a aluminum kitchen sink. Then static stored in your body may destroy the ram or your Laptop.

Shall i connect ddr2 ram in my mother bord?

That OLD motherboard ONLY supports basic DDR RAM; it does NOT work with DDR2 RAM; the board is actually designed to work with PC2100 (DDR 266) RAM, so you can NOT install DDR2 RAM in the RAM slots on that 'board...

Good luck; hope this information helps you
