It is very simple and uses common sense.
The tape comes off the supply reel on left goes under the tension arm over the stationary guide then under the tape heads and lifters then past the last stationary guide and in between the Capstan Shaft (Metal) and the Pinch Roller which is rubber and then under the Right tension arm which is also called the safety arm and threaded onto the take-up reel on the right. If you have any other questions about the deck I can be contacted directly. I am a past Teac Technician and have been servicing these things for 40 years so far. E mail

Send me a picture of the front of the deck and I'll mark the picture with the threading pattern, and e-mail it back. ****

Teac 2300 S troubleshooting

If the unit is plugged in there may be a fuse in the back that needs to be looked at. If not then there is a fuse on the power supply or a resistor that may have opened up. After all these years there are capacitors than need to be changed in these machines- I know this because I work on them all the time here in Chicago. If the unit lights up but you have no transport first check for the dummy plug for the remote control. If that is in then it is possible that the right arm safety switch has opened up. This is work for a Technician past this point.

Getting belts for TEAC W-890R. I'm currently sitting here a home with a DEAD TEAC A-350 Cassette Deck -- DEAD because I was told you can get belts for it (I have since found out that is is NOT true and...

That is the state of conditions at Teac and they don't care about tape customer anymore. If you need belts for any unit it is simple to find the belt kit at Marrs Communications. They do not have he cheapest prices bu the you don't know what size you need and Fred took time to find his out. If you want to do it the other way you download a copy of the PRB cross reference manual and look up the belt type that goes into your deck. The you go to Ken's Electronics and order the belts online. This does not come with instruction of how to put them in. In my many years as a Technician working on all kinds of tape decks I have never seen an instruction to put belts in a machine- it is assumed that if you can not figure this out that you probably do not belong in the machine. In cases where belts are not in place sometimes the parts layout diagram can help you determine how they go in.

With TEAC A-2300s. Install new tape from supply side to take up side.

It goes from the left reel over the tension arm under the stationary guide in the head stack under the lifters between the Pinch Roller and Capstan shaft and then under the rigfht tension arm and threaded onto the reel. This is from memory but I am sure I have threaded 1000 or more decks in 40 years of service.

Threading reel to reel

Depending on which brand of recorder you have, most do have a general threading scheme. As you are facing the unit, the supply (full) reel would be on the your left and the take-up (empty) would be to the right. Position the supply reel so that the leader end of the tape will be on the outside. Pull the tape end around the shut off sensor lever so that it moves freely. Now pull the tape leader between the rubber pinch roller and capstan (in the case the unit has dual capstans). If it has a single roller on the right side, pull the tape between the heads and then between the roller/capstan. If unit has dual shut off sensor levers, pull tape around this sensor as you did the first, making sure it moves freely. Then thread the tape leader into the take-up reel slot. Press play. Both reels should turn counter clockwise.
