Question about Casio Exilim Card EX-S100 Digital Camera

1 Answer

A friend of mine dropped my camera while the lens was extended. The camera now does not turn on but makes noise and attempts to turn on. The lens goes out and then back to the position it is stuck in. I don't know what to do to fix it or where to take it. I have an Casio Exilim EX-S10. It's an expensive camera, so I'm hopeful it can be fixed.

The lens mechanism could be jammed and cause a failure of the lens control system. You can remove battery and card replace battery and while switching on tap the lens hood on your hands so as to disengage any dirt or mechanism being struck.
Use some air to blow between the lens to dislodge any sand particles struck inside. If none of these works then you can think of taking consensus with the service centre., being an expensive camera
get estimate before you decide. It will be good to have it checked at the Casio service as you do not have to run around for spares.

I have the Sanyo x1250 and it dropped with the len extended. When I turn it on, the lens goes partcially in and out while making a clicking noise, and after a few seconds of this, it says system error on...

Lens errors (system errors on Sanyo's) are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...Here are some troubleshooting steps that you can try that may (or may not) correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try. Some of the later steps do involve some risk to the camera, so carefully weigh your options before deciding to conduct them:

I have a Canon IXUS970IS and the lens is stuck 3/4 out. I do not know how it happened as I loaned the camera out and it came back like this. I am told it just happened. There is no evidence that the...

I will say with 95% certainty the camera was dropped while the lens was extended. It does not take much of an impact to make the Canon lenses lock up, a very small drop, or even banging the lens into a door or something while it is extended will do this. It happened to my Canon, and two other friends' Canon cameras as well! Googling the issue also shows how common this is. I had my camera hanging around my neck and merely bumped my extended lens while opening a door. The gears inside are SO fine, and it skips just one tooth and it will fail. It sucks.
Sending the camera in to Canon for repair seems to be the only option, since you already tried gently push/pull/twist of the lens while it tries to retract. That worked for one friend, I sent mine into Canon for $50 repair.
Sorry.

Get another camera. Just like a car that is involved in a major collision, it will experience many other problems later that currently will not appear. You will probably spend additional money to fix subsequent issues later. An average camera repair will range up to $100.

Lens doesn't extend

its likely the lens was physically damaged/jammed during the drop. Your best bet is to take it to the local camera shop for repairs. I would also refrain from turning it on to reduce the possibility of further damage.

Camara wont power up

I have a similar problem where the product stopped working and froze. No buttons worked, replaced batteries seveal times.

Spoke to Hp Customer service where they stated buy another camera??? It was out of warranty for about 2 months.

So I bought a Kodak camera with great customer support and will never buy another HP Product again.

My problem was solved!
