There might be a need to install the driver of your USB, there would be an instance that it could not be read by the system since that it requires a software to transfer files to your USB, there are some usb that requires this. please check with the vendor if its plug n play.

WHENEVER I CONNECT A USB DRIVE TO MY COMPUTER IT IS SHOWING THAT THIS DEVICE CAN PERFORM FASTER IF YOU CONNECT IT TO A HIGH SPEED PORT

Hi,

Thanks for asking FixYa for help. My name is Jeff and I will be assisting you today. That is not a problem. Different USB ports have different capabilities as do the various USB devices. You are merely being alerted to the fact that the device could work better in a faster port.

If you have the manual for the motherboard you should be able to identify which port is which. You could also accomplish the same thing by trying the various USB ports.

If you are in need of additional help, please let us know.

Thank you for allowing us to help you today.

I have a asus m2n68 am se2 motherboard..when i restart my computer my keyboard do not work.it gets detected but does nt functions..pls help me

Is your keyboard directly connected to your computer or is it wireless? What OS are you using? (XP, Vista, Win7). If the keyboard is connected to a USB port, try plugging it into a different port.

Problem with USB port on Asus P5KPL-AM SE Motherboard

Older motherboards have USB 1.1 ports;
newer motherboards have USB 2.0 ports,
which are over 10 times as fast.

It is Windows (not your motherboard) that should do the "Plug-and-Play" thing for devices connected to your USB port(s).

Note that some devices are USB 2.0, and will *NOT* work when plugged-in to a USB 1.1 port.

Either get a newer motherboard, or get a PCI add-on card that adds USB 2.0 ports.

USB port problems

You need the motherboard specs, which you can look up on the internet, based on the maker.
With the USB ports, the front ones often don't include power.
So plug a powered 4 port hub into the front port, and then the hub will supply the power after that.

USB PROBLEM- Hey its me Shademon

shademon - I'm assuming that the drive letter change didn't help? If not, here's the deal. When you installed Vista over XP you may not have had all of the correct drivers installed. There is still an option. Try going to microsoft update and running cutom updates, down the lefthand side you should see a list of "hardware" updates download and install all of those, perhaps there is a driver update for vista. If that doesn't work you probably have a few ports that are direct soldered to your mobo, but you've probably also got a few in the front that run on a 4 - 8 pin cable to your board. You can also buy a card that should go into your vacant PCI slots (make sure it's vista capable) and you should be able to install the drivers/software direct via a CD with the new hardware check out these products newegg is pretty reasonable price http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&Description=PCI+USB hope this helps let me know if I can answer anything else.

USB PORTS

OMG, ANOTHER HORROR STORY OF CUSTOM BUILT COMPUTERS! THE THINGS PEOPLE DO WITH THESE COMPUTERS, THEY SHOULD HAVE TO WORK ON THEM. I'M REALLY SORRY YOU'RE HAVING PROBLEMS, AND NOT KNOWING THE COMPUTER MAKE I'M GOING TO SUGGEST TRYING SOMETHING THAT MIGHT SOLVE YOUR PROBLEM. YOU SAY THE USB PORTS WERE HARDWIRED TO THE MOTHERBOARD AND THEY ARE ON. THIS MIGHT BE THE PROBLEM. HAVE YOU TRIED TO TURN THEM OFF AND THEN INSTALL THE USB CARD AND REBOOT? SEE IF THE COMPUTER WILL RECOGNIZE THE NEW USB CARD IN THE SLOT INSTEAD. THIS MIGHT DO THE TRICK. HAVING THE HARDWIRED USB TURNED ON WOULD CAUSE A CONFLICT WITH TRYING TO INSTALL ANOTHER USB CARD. ALSO, HAVE YOU TRIED USING A USB MINI-HUB INSTEAD? POSSIBLY THE MINI HUB MIGHT BE AN EASIER SOLUTION, SINCE THEY SELDOM NEED ANY SOFTWARE ETC. TO FUNCTION. I HOPE THIS GIVES YOU A COUPLE OF IDEAS TO TRY AND POSSIBLY SOLVE THIS STICKY PROBLEM. IF YOU NEED MORE HELP JUST REPLY TO:

Usb port ceases to work when any device connected to second port

As you stated the device works in one slot but not the other , tells you there is problem with that usb port , don't use those ports , best thing to do is purchase a PCI USB card if you need more USB ports .
