Will just replacing the oven element fix my Kenmore model 911.955879range oven? It sparked, broke in two and a white flame continued going around the element, wouldn't stop I had to shut breaker off.

Hello Jennifer;

My name is peter. I am a retired field service appliance technician.

Good for you - turning off the breaker.

You have a older oven. Usually there is a spark or crack in the oven element. In your case the element was so embrittled it broke into 2 pieces.

Before you use the top range burners to be on the safe side you need to disconnect the oven element. You may have damaged the oven control board to where it is locked into power for the oven.

25713262-01ium3bsyoj5ql4fhv4kpwvp-4-0.jpg 1.) Remove the bottom drawer to reduce weight.
2.) Put a rug on the floor in front of the oven, so when you pull the oven out it does not scratch the floor.
3.) Pull the oven out so you can get behind it.
4.) Unplug the unit.
5.) Remove the back bottom cover.
6.) Disconnect the heating element and remove from oven.
7.) Rap the two loose element connections in the back with electrical tape.
8.) Follow the element loose connection to the control board at the top. Disconnect at the oven control board.
9.) Inspect the loose wiring from the control board to the heating element for burns or melting.
10.) Plug the oven back in and turn on the range burners.

The part number for the oven element is WB44T10014. Sears wants about $95.00 for this part. Search the internet for this part number and get it for about $28.00.

Your oven control board may have become damaged. Recently I replace one for a friend. Sears wanted $256.00. I got a remanufactured board over the internet for $30.00.

Get back to me and let me know what is going on.

IS THE BOTTOM OVEN COIL/ELEMENT TE SAME IN MOST 30" MODELS. MINE JUST WENT OUT. IM HAVING EASTER. NEED REPLACED. model number WHIRLPOOL MOD# TES325MQ 3

Hi,
All bake elements are not the same. The part # for your bake element is #9758519. Hopefully you can find an appliance parts store in your area. Thay are fairly ease to replace. With the oven UNPLUGGED, Remove the two screws holding the element in and there should only be two wires connected to the element.
I hope this helps you. If I can assist you further, please let me know.

Thanks,
Vic

Replacing element in the oven. Can you do it from the inside

On most ovens it is generally just a matter of undoing 2 screws inside the oven to release the element bracket. Wiring terminals can then be accessed. If it is fan forced and the element is surrounding the fan you will need to take the fan/element cover off. If the element is beneath the floor of the oven you will need to take the back off the oven to gain access.

THere is no bottom element in this oven. Is there supposed to be one??

you are right jsrock, there is an element under the floor pan, but if this person bought it from someone (not a dealer) that may explain the lack of knowledge. The benefit here is in the cleaning, and not having to lift the heating element to place foil or teflon sheets underneath as in "the old days." I like it this way better!

How do you change element on Whirlpool gold accubake oven. I have 2 elements that need replaceing

This is one of the most simple repairs you can make. First turn the breaker off to the unit. Some models are just wired in with two wires and some models have clips that just snap in and out.

Whirlpool range model GY398LXPB00 oven does not work

Turned out there was a short in one of the wires connected to the bottom element on the oven. After fixing that, I got a EO-F2 error that the repairman could not get rid of by pressing start. After hours on line and at this site I remembered that you had to do something after the power was interrupted. I came home and looked again and found you need to unplug the stove for 5 min before resetting the clock. I did this and it fixed everything. The repairman left telling me the control panel needed to replaced to the tune of about $600!

This shows you have to be informed or you can be taken advantage of. Thanks FixYa.
