Question about Epson Stylus RX680 Color All-in-One InkJet Photo Printer

1 Answer

My black ink cartridge ran out and it was 2 weeks before I replaced it-the old cartridge was still in the printer. Now with all new cartridges it will not print solid black-only a grey color instead of black. The other colors print fine-Epson rep said the unit is malfunctioning after we tried head cleaning 8 times-also the head cleaning has now reduced brand new cartridges to 1/4 full!!! Epson said it would be cheaper to replace the entire printer than have it serviced. If this is true due to ink usage and reliability I will NEVER own another Epson printer.

Hi Good day!!! if you try the head cleaning for 1 dozen of time and nothing has change, try this one method I'll give you, before you buy a new printer. all you need to have is a cleaning solution kit and a syringe.
1. remove the cartridge to expose the nozzle that feed the head
2. fill syringe with 2ml of your cleaning solution.
3. push end of tube over the nozzle that takes ink from the cartridge.
4.gently push the syringe allowing 1ml of cleaning solution to pass down the tube and into the head
5. leave the syringe in this position for couple of hours to allow the fluid to soak the dried ink particles.
6. after a couple of hours gentle push the rest of the fluid through the end
7. the next few prints may be contaminated with cleaning fluid and you are advised before carrying out any prints to do a full head clean using printer utility.
8. if after step 8 you still have a problem you can repeat the operation up to step 6, but instead of pushing the fluid through the head draw the fluid back into the syringe, and then back to the head, this causes fluid to move backward and forward in the head assembly, you should notice air bubbles and very small dried ink particles whist doing this. Please note while this product will remove stubborn dried ink particles it will not damage print head.

Don't forget to vote thanks!!!!

That is basically true. You have a clog. You can try to save the printer by continually running through the black ink cleaning process. Might as well, you already replaced the cartridge, and you won't be able to use the cartridge in another printer since cartridges are now electronically tagged.

Problem with new ink cartridge

More that likely the refilled ink cartridges are faulty and should be replaced. While some folks have pretty good luck with refilled cartridges, it is generally better to stick with the new ones.

As to the problem with old cartridges, keep in mind that the estimated ink levels are just that - estimates. However, if your printer has an option for cleaning the cartridges, try that before chunking them. Take them out, put them back in, and run the cleaning process. Sometimes the nozzles can get clogged up and running the cleaning process will clear them up. ( DO NOT TRY TO CLEAN THE CARTRIDGES MANUALLY!)

If none of this helps, you will more than likely just need to get some new cartridges. - Graye

Not printing after color cartridge ran out - new black cartridge installed.

Yes, this printer has fixed printheads and must have ink in each color to prevent damage to the printheads. Even when printing black only each color is spit in the servicing area to keep the printhead unclogged.

There are 2 possible problems, or the cartridge is a refilled one or some problem by the cartridge itself. Try to change the cartridge.
